THE GOOD STUFF:
This has been one heck of a fantastic car. I have worked in outside sales for more than 20 years. My wife and I purchased the car on June 3rd 2010 from a small online dealer that had listed it on Ebay. It had just a tick less than 76, 000 miles on it at that time. All told, we paid $23, 572 for the car. It has been my primary driver for nearly every bit of the 5 years I've had it. My work takes me to Austin and San Antonio several times per month. Over the 5 years we've had this car I have personally put 95% of the miles on it. The odometer now reads just over 197, 000. As you would imagine. ..the vast majority of the mileage was indeed highway miles.
It has hands down been simply the most pleasurable car either of us have ever owned. Even now it remains tight with virtually no rattles or road noise what so ever. The build quality and ownership experience has been really, really good. Get in. Put the key in the ignition. Start it up and drive in comfort anywhere you choose. Even now with the front differential issue I would not hesitate to get in this car and point it in the direction of a 1000 mile journey at a moments notice. It's just been that good of a car.
I have personally had the following done, done it myself, or have dealer records to verify the following items have been taken care of:
Only Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and Filter each and every time. I change the oil every 10, 000-12, 000 miles without fail.
K&N Lifetime Air Filters X2
Now on my 4th set of tires since owning the car. The Bridgetone Potenza Run-Flats have 60% tread left or better.
Changed the Transmission Fluid and Filter at 120, 000 miles.
Had the alternator replaced at 194, 000 miles. This is the one and only instance the car had ever left me on the side of the road. The part, labor, towing set me back over $1800.
Replaced all four discs and pads 2X
The Coolant Pipes (notorious for breaking and causing $1000's of problems) were replaced by the dealer that delivered the car new in 2004 Momentum Porsche in Houston, TX. Don't fool around with this. Be 100% sure you can verify the coolant pipe replacement has been properly done by a reputable shop or dealer if you ever buy one of these cars. I have all maintenance records printed and in a folder as furnished to me by Momentum Porsche documenting 100% of the care given to the care during the time it was with it's 1st owner.
New Cabin Air Filter as of a couple of months ago
Replaced the A/C Blower Motor (another common fault on these cars) at 195, 000 miles
Replaced the in-tank fuel filter / sending unit at 195, 000 miles
The A/C works wonderfully and is ICE COLD. The system has never once been opened to add freon during our ownership.
THE STUFF THAT NEEDS ATTENTION:
The Front Differential makes a clicking noise under accleration. I found out that the front differentials in these cars are indeed a weak link and often fail at around 100, 000 miles. Ours started to make noise at roughly 190, 000 miles. I had a reputable transmission shop take a look at the issue in depth. They agree that the differential should be removed and rebuilt. They couldn't give me a firm price to do the job until they would have pulled the unit and totally disassembled it. As an alternative, I have located several used units around the country that average about $1100 and come with a 90 day warranty. I don't have the space to tackle such a job on my own. I have received 2 quotes for labor only if I were to supply the part and gear oil of $600-$700 to complete the job. This is where I get off. I love, LOVE the car. ..but I didn't want to have to contend with this hurdle. I have been told that simply disconnecting the front driveshaft at the transfer case could be a way to solve the issue, thus rendering the car rear wheel drive only. I have no way of knowing if this would work and wouldn't want to potentially destroy something else in the process to find out.
The BOSE Stereo stopped working within weeks of our having purchased the car. I found out that this too is a common problem. I researched getting it fixed. It would have been close to $1500 at the time. To replace it with an aftermarket system would have meant that the steering wheel mounted controls would no longer work for the stereo and possibly all of the other gadgets and would have rendered the GPS useless. The navigation system by the way still works just fine although it's pretty primitive by today's standards. I just chose to leave it be.
The windshield has been cracked for years. It doesn't obscure the driver's vision at all. It has passed TX State Safety Inspection each of the last 3 years with the crack evident.
The check engine light has been on for the past 50, 000 miles. This doesn't effect the drive or gas mileage one bit.
There's a small tear in the underside of the armrest leather in the middle of the back seat. It's visible in one of the pictures.
The Cruise Control stopped working at about 150, 000 miles
The very rear of the headliner (near the top of the tailgate) has started to sag. I've pinned it back up discreetly.
The passenger side Headlight does not work. The high beam, low beam, cornering light, nor turn signal work. The non-functioning lights have prevented me from being able to pass the TX State Vehicle Inspection that must accompany License Plate Renewals. ..
. ..therefore the State Inspection and License Plate are both expired.
This is in no way a garage queen. There's plenty of scrapes and chips inside and out. You're looking at a listing for an 11 year old car with very nearly 200, 000 miles on it. It still delivers a solid 18 MPG on the highway and around 14 MPG in the city (oddly enough just as the window sticker said it should). I have quite a collection of receipts and service documents, all of the original books, original key, and window sticker. I hold in my hands a clear TX blue title. Not Salvage. This car is not junk.
Please insure you're good with the following 7 points:
1. If you ZERO Feedback, your bid will be rejected / cancelled.
2. If you cannot pick up the vehicle in the Houston, TX area this coming weekend (June 27th / June 28th), please don't bother to bid. PAYMENT must be in FULL and IN CASH at the time of LOCAL PICK-UP.
3. If you have no means to pay for the vehicle, don't bother bidding.
4. If you have to ask your wife, mother, girlfriend, or anyone permission to buy this vehicle. ..do it before you bid.
5. I don't want to trade. No, really. I don't need another car, a motorcycle, a boat, or a gun.
6. The vehicle is for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the aution at any time.
7. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at 713-Four Four Four-1321. Leave me a message if I don't answer. I'll call you back shortly. I'm also happy to arrange to show the vehicle prior to your placing a bid.
BID TO BUY!
This is a NO -RESERVE AUCTION. A winning bid doesn't earn you the opportunity to come and take a look at the car and make a low-ball offer. It means you BOUGHT the car. If you have questions, ask them up front. If you have doubts. ..then don't bid. I'm proud of my EXCELLENT FEEDBACK and more than 10 years on Ebay.
