Renault Other (1987)
for sale

Price: US $200.00

Description:

When seasonally appropriate, this car has been my daily driver since I bought it in early 2002. Toasty and comfortable with the top down, even with temps in the teens (ok, with windows rolled up), it's always been my go-to ride until the road crews start dumping salt on the roads here in Vermont (typically some time around Thanksgiving). At that point the car has always headed for the barn and been covered up in blankets until well after the spring rains wash the salt away again (early May?).
All scheduled maintenance has been done on time as long as I've owned it (oil and filter every 3000 miles, for example). Otherwise, parts have been replaced promptly as needed (axles, wheel bearings, brake pads and shoes, etc). I've done most of the work myself (I've been driving and maintaining Renaults since the mid-70s), with the occasional assistance of a top-notch Renault-certified mechanic friend when I'm short on time, or just want company for the project (he's got one too, with 270K-plus miles on it). The car runs and drives like a champ (consistently 30+ mpg!), and has been by far the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.
As you can probably see from the photos, this is NOT a show car. I bought it so I could have a fun ride to enjoy sunny top-down cruising, not to fuss over. That being said, it looks pretty darn good for a car its age, especially one that's still wearing the original factory paint. As you might expect, it's faded in a few places, more so on the plastic pieces facing the sun (as in the bumpers). There are no dents to speak of, just a few minor dings and scratches here and there. The top is cloth, installed when I first got it, and it's still in excellent shape, including the plastic rear window. It's always been kept in the garage. And I've found it very much worth it to keep it under a car cover during the day while I'm at work (see photo).
The interior is hardly perfect - there are a number of stains on the plastic moldings. There were far more when I first got the car; over the years I've managed to scrub most of them away, but quite frankly it got to the point where I felt it was just plain good enough. On the plus side, the cloth seats are in great shape and extremely comfortable, with only a couple of minor tears in the plastic fabric (under the headrests, as happens with all these cars). And there's a kickass stereo, w/ subwoofer in the trunk - it makes for great sound that's easily heard over the wind noise. Assisted greatly by the clear plexi windblock I have installed behind the front seats.
I've done my best to make sure this car is safe and very reliable for myself and my family, and thus for whoever gets to own it next. Other than a short crack within the tint at the top of the windshield (it's been there for years - I've tried to get a photo but it always comes out invisible), there are no known issues or problems. But I can't predict the future, and the unexpected must always be expected. So there is no warranty, implied or otherwise. The car is for sale AS IS. Feel free to ask questions - I'm assuming most interest will come from fellow Renault fans who know how special these cars are, and will likely know the right questions to ask. And I will try to provide additional photos on request.
Yes, I know the grille is supposed to be the same color as the rest of the body. The one that came with the car was broken in several places; the one I bought to replace it was unpainted black. I decided I liked it better that way, especially given the difficulty of matching that particular red. So be it.
I will gladly assist with shipping arrangements. But I would be even happier if the new owner came to my house and drove it away.
The car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Enjoy!
