You are bidding on a 1961 La Dawri Sebring. It has a fiberglass body, tubular frame chassis with a Volvo PV 544 drive train. This kit car (#8 built) was assembled in ’61 and has remained untouched, just as its first owner (now in his late 90’s) built it. This automobile is a true time capsule. It was last driven on the road in 1978 and will need a total restoration. The fiberglass body is stress crack free and the tubular chassis appears to be straight and solid with showing only normal light surface rust. (I took a wired brush to a small section and it cleaned up very well). This vehicle has been preserved in a dry storage since it was taken off the road, therefore the interior has remained pretty much intact (upholstered bucket seats included) which is quite rare to find in that sort of kit car. The Volvo unit is locked up and will need a complete overhaul, the valve cover, valves, intake manifold, carbs and ramp are in a box. The brake pedal is seized up but the car rolls freely. This La Dawri comes with a weird looking hard top that seems to be fitted for it and a spare wheel and jack in the trunk. The car shows 20161 miles on the clock. The title and keys were lost at some point so it will be sold with a bill of sale. Original La Dawri brochures and a photo of the actual car after completion are also included. The last 2 pictures are from the La Dawri ledger back in 1961 and are pertaining to this car.
La Dawri cars have been acknowledged at prestigious events such as Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, and are coming into their own along with other early fiberglass “specials”.
