Saab makes a truly wonderful car. It drives/handles like it's European siblings but was originally built in Sweden. These cars have a great fan base and are admired for their safety, uniqueness and ingenuity. Enthusiast will tell you, if you own a Saab they are prone to a couple problems but once you address them you have a car that will easily take you 400k miles without blinking. You've stumbled upon a rare find as these were the last years of the OG body style and sure to be a collector car, the reason for its extensive care and upkeep. Verifiable FULL SAAB DEALER service records performed at 20k, 40k, 60k and now 80k miles.
Here is everything replaced over the last 6 months for 80k service. Please note we only purchased manufacture specific parts (OEM). Often times they cost 2-3 times the cost of discount (Autozone) parts but there lifespan and build quality are superior to avoid future service. Everything listed below was for parts and installation by a European car specialist in Newport Beach and by owner. By no means is everything completed required at 80k miles.
Auxiliary input added for Ipohne/ android / Maps directly through stereo and speaker system - $80
New Pioneer speakers throughout including new amplified door woofers (Sounds great) - $350
Brand new Bosch factory specified battery (5 year warranty) - $200
New Direct Ignition Cassette (part that can go out and leave you stranded around 80k, preventative maintenance). Previously working OEM DIC boxed and secured in trunk as back up. - $320
NGK Laser platinum spark plugs (50k mile change interval) - $65
PCV update #6 with dedicated oil trap (don't buy a Saab if this wasn't completed) - $380
New front struts installed (Monroe brand per OEM, ride is ultra-smooth at 90mph), lube all diffs and bearings - $360
Air filter replaced - $40
Turbo lines replaced with high grade silicone vacuum line (blue, never need to changed again).- $140
Convertible top serviced, microswitch replaced works perfect always with warranty. - $400
Oil changed with Mobile 1 fully synthetic euro blend 0w-40 and WIX high flow filter (only and always, no other oil, no other filter. Well, for oil filter a Napa brand gold filter will work as it's a rebranded WIX) - $120
Power steering hoses replaced and fluid changed - $180
Brake pads and rotors (EBC) and brake fluid purge/replace (80-100k mile change interval) - $280
AC system check, purge and re-charge, blows extreme cold (you can't handle max). - $140
Tinted windows - $120
Power antenna replaced - $90
HID fog lights $80
Sylvania HID Ultrastar headlights $80
Hood and trunk emblem replaced $50
New information display, there were pixels that were missing/burnt out in the old unit. $80
In-dash cup holder had broken off and had been a pain, so new cup holder $60
Please take a moment to add up all the restorations listed above. It equals over $3500 in perfection maintenance by a Saab know it all. We've acquired a new vehicle and one must go per wifey. I tell you though, this is a keeper car. Runs excellent. It is the 4th Saab I've owned, love these cars. We hope it lands in the hands of a happy owner that can get as much enjoyment out of it as we have.
It's a very well built car, safety was always a main concern with Saab as their reputation was built on aviation. It has 4 airbags, ABS braking, traction control and a very rigid construction unlike Honda accord or Toyota corolla. Engine package is T7 2.0L Turbo automatic with Sport mode power band setting at push button (alters power delivery from turbo- aka, makes it go fast), we only fill it with premium grade fuel but it gets great MPG and a large tank so fewer trips to fill up, highly desirable Sun Green metallic paint, 17 Saab upgrade wheels and optional spoiler, Excellent Saab factory alarm system, heated seats are super nice with top down, tinted windows a huge plus, leather wrapped sport steering wheel with radio controls built in. This is a classy car set up to be worry free for another 100k miles with just oil changes. Regardless what car you buy, 80-100k miles is a turning point for a car, most people don't take the care they need so be weary of other vehicles you view in your search for a convertible in this price range, especially with European vehicles. And especially with dealers. . .. We hope the potential new owner can note a few things listed below and thanks for reading :)
Price is firm, although open to slight negotiations in person. If you'd like to see the car please call to schedule a time, most times work we just lead busy lives so if you are serious, calling is best. If you want to drive it, please bring a valid insurance card in your name otherwise my husband will have to drive you around, which is fine too. We are not in a hurry to sell the car, we may just end up keeping it. Defiantly don't need help selling the car if you are a business please do not contact. Please be respectful of time and only contact if truly interested. The car lives up to the hype (cost price new was 46k in 2002). So fun, unique, safe, fast and reliable. Also very nice body lines and size, not too big not too small, makes driving a lot of fun. As far as convertibles go, VW and audi do not make good cars, the mini cooper is not a well built car either. Mercedes and bmw convertibles nearing 100k miles rarely see the long term care they need, more so, they often have underlying issues, many times severe and servicing them can be thousands of dollars. This Saab is set up for longevity and years and years of maintenance free enjoyment. Thanks for reading through and good luck in your search.
