2003 Saab 9-3

Saab 9-3 (2003)
for sale

Price: US $50.00

Description:

I love this car and have put many hours learning about cars by being a DIY mechanic. It is also a pleasure to drive. The most comfortable car I or others in my family have had over the years. It rides low and feels very sporty. The turbo is peppy and gas mileage is pretty good (~25/28mpg).
SO, why sell it? Well, for starters my new job doesn't require me to have a car anymore, so this just sits in the driveway for short errands or if we need to take separate cars somewhere. The second reason is work and family are very demanding on my time and I don't have time to do work on this car, so my wife is pushing me to sell it. Prime example is the window motor on the Driver's window hasn't worked for almost a year now, but I haven't had the time to fix it since it is merely an inconvenience at the Drive Through Dunkin Donuts.
This car is best for someone who wants to learn some DIY car work, or a mechanic, or someone who just loves Saabs and is willing to have a mechanic bring it up to snuff.
*** KBB value even with the issues listed is above $2000. Do some research and these are selling privately (fixed up) for around $3, 500 - $4, 500k. ***
Some great features are on this car and it feels way ahead of its time:
* One-touch Down and UP windows for all four windows AND sunroof
* Glass sliding sunroof/moonroof
* AUX input for plugging an MP3 player or your phone to the stereo system
* Rear Parking Sensor so it beeps when you are backing up near an object
* Lots more you wouldn't expect on a 2003 -- Saabs are always way ahead of their time and people are always surprised it is a 2003 when they sit in it
Existing Major Problems (but car drives and is still used as commuter car):
* Shocks/struts on passenger's side seem shot, making metallic clanging when you hit bumps. Driveable, but needs repair eventually.
* CEL -- Two codes have been pulled in the past, but I haven't check recently. Both are known issues (see below) that I just ignore. SAI and Random Misfire.
* Secondary Air Injector and Pump -- non-working and needs replacement. COMPLETELY driveable as this only gets used on Cold-Starts to give a better gas-air mix. Has been broken over a year. Has to be repaired before inspection in 2016 since it is emmissions related and is the reason for check engine light.
* Cylinder 2 blew the spark plug 6 months back and it stripped the threads in the cylinder. Bad problem, awesome learning experience. I used a Heli-Coil kit to rethread the cylinder and the repair has been holding great since. The PROBLEM is that as a DIY learning, I didn't thread the kit deep enough and the spark plug sits a quarter of an inch too high. I suspect this is what causes the random misfire, but not 100%.
* Valve Cover Gasket seal broken -- this is the seal for the valve cover gasket above the spark plugs (not the more costly Head Cover Gasket). The replacement part is $150 or so, but I didnt want to wait for it to ship and didn't want to spend more money on the car since I am selling, so I just patched it with Black ATV for now, but this will need replacement again soon. This could also be the misfire if oil is leaking through the broken seal onto the spark plugs.
* One of the 2 problems above is causing the car to misfire and hesitate when you accelerate hard. When this happens I just let off the accelerator, but it would be nice to fix this so you can open her up and feel the speed like I used to before the spark plug problem. To confirm, this doesn't hamper the car's ability to drive distances or fast. I just drove to Philly the other day with the car and was flowing with traffic well above 70; the only limitation is when you press the gas/throttle too hard it chokes, so I just let up and accelerate more slowly.
Existing Minor Problems (annoyances):
* Driver's side window will not work (open your door at Dunkin Donuts drive through)* Gas tank cover hinge broke so I have to jam it on after filling the tank
* Passenger's side view mirror doesn't auto-tilt when you reverse (was working till Geico replaced the glass and forgot to reconnect the wiring -- easy fix)
* Scratches and fading as expected on an older car (and one on the truck where my daughter tried to draw a heart on my car with a rock as seen in pics)
That is an exhaustive list so that nobody is surprised and I don't want to screw anyone. As honest as I am trying to be, not everyone else is as honest so below are some words to ensure a safe sale for both parties.
