I bought this car as a project last summer. Running poorly and needed some body work. Fixed the poor running issue (replaced the ignition cassette) and addressed the body issues - new fender and door. I have a new more exiting project (03 Aero) so this needs to go.
I got a temporary plate and drove it for three weeks last fall - about 1200 miles. It ran great.
Starts easily. Runs smoothly. Turbo seems to operate properly. Good exhaust. Brakes are fine. No transmission problems. Good clutch. Cold A/C - Hot heat. Heated seats - the driver's seat is the only one I have tested - works fine. No missing pixels in SID. All power windows and sunroof work fine. All lights are good. No Check Engine or other warning lights on dash. The interior is mostly in good shape. I replaced the driver's seat with one from an 01 model that had memory. I also replaced the door cards with those from an 01 - got rid of the cloth inserts. Wheels are in very nice shape. As noted earlier, I replace the front struts/springs and rear shocks/springs with those from an 01 Aero Wagon w/164k. It was obvious by their condition that the rear shocks and springs had been replaced on that car. I don't know how old they are. I have most of the other Aero bits -steering wheel, front brakes, TD04 turbo. They are available for purchase.
The car seems to have been well maintained but I have no service records. As with any 16 year old car, there are some areas that need attention. First, there is a minor coolant leak - about a pint in 400 miles. I suspect either the coolant bypass valve, water pump, or the radiator. Spare good (used) coolant bypass valve and radiator will come with the car. It also has a key issue. The synch between the key and the TWICE unit (security module) seems to have been lost. So to start the car you must press the unlock button as you turn the key. Key not accepted message appears on the information display. Always starts - runs fine. The key works fine in the driver's door and the rear hatch. Remote functions work fine as well. Immobilizer antenna (key ring) has been replaced with a known good unit. You can drive the car just fine as is. Someone with a Tech2 may be able to re-synch the key and the TWICE unit. Worst case you will need to get a new (used) TWICE unit with already synched key and then get someone with a TECH2 to update the VIN/Immobilizer info. I can provide the a TWICE and key for and additional $150. Power miror don't respond to the switch. A good used switch will be included. Harmon Kardon speaker sound great - except for the subwoofer. I have a good used one for $75 if you are interested. One of headlight wipers is missing. A used unit will be included with the sale. The tires are nearly new. I discovered some signs of dry rot on the insides of the front tires. Rears are fine. The body is mostly in good shape. There is a small cut on the front bumper - see pics. There are a couple of hard to see creases in the doors - one in the driver front and one in the passenger rear. It has the typical 9-5 rust problems down low just in front of the rear wheel wells.
I have the Massachusetts title from the previous owner. New Hampshire doesn't issue titles for 15 year old cars.
The car is not registered but can be test driven on local back roads.
