Up for sale is my 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon, manual trans. Yep, that’s the one everyone wants… It’s an 02, so it does not have the really cool bumpers like the 04-05’s but if you found one, you can always install it on this one, they are a direct bolt on. It is an 02, so you got the 20HP bump-up over the previous year Aero, making this car 250HP. No modifications, except for an OEM equipment stainless steel “Saab Sport” exhaust, and a S&B drop-in air filter. When you could still get the Saab-sport exhausts for the wagons, they were almost an $1200 upgrade.
This has been my personal car for the past 2 years. I have always serviced it myself, and it needs nothing. You can drive it away - it should be able to make any trip anywhere.
Most recent things replaced-
Valve cover gasket
Water Pump
Heater by-pass valve
AC compressor
Direct ignition cassette
Battery
It has also recently has had a blower motor, a SID replaced, all motor mounts, and sub-frame bushings under my ownership. Also the fuel pump & mass-air flow sensor. Throttle body was done by previous owner shortly before I bought it. I purchased it at around 140, 000 miles and ran it 2 years up to it’s current mileage. Any “saab tech” will tell you these are typical Saab 9-5 things that they need over the years- I just happened to get the lyons share of the “typicals” - should be good for a while now. The car has the latest PCV-6 update which was done years and years ago by a previous owner- Oil changes with full synthetic every 5000 miles. When I did the valve cover gasket, it was spotless inside the motor. Very likely this was always an “enthusiast owned” car. Transmission shifts fine, runs great, plenty of power to easily double any speed limit on US roads. Clutch works fine, and holds fine (so I presume it was replaced at some point in it’s life) but I never have. The clutch does have a little bit of low speed chatter (which typically indicates a warped clutch pressure plate) but it still works fine and is not worth replacing due to this.
Has the typical aero options, suspension, seats, harman kardon sound with trunk subwoofer, power everything etc. It was optioned without the “visibility package” which included somewhat troublesome and expensive bi-xenon headlights, which is actually something I rather like about this car… if a bulb dies, it’s $6.00 at wal-mart to replace, and realistically the light output is almost just as good as bi-xenon cars, without $600 worth of control modules $500 headlights, and various other suspension sensors which commonly go bad on these cars. It also does not have the rain-sensing wipers or back-up sensors, just the traditional high/low or intermittant wipers You have none of that to go wrong with this one, almost everything in the visibility package tends to malfunction at higher mileages.
I love the car and would like to keep it however I have a 2010 9-5 Aero sedan now, and this wagon is completely extraneous for me, someone else should enjoy it rather than me just letting it sit un used.
Cosmetically, it’s a 195, 000 mile daily driver with a lot of highway mileage on it. All 4 wheels are straight, tires are balanced well, no shake no shimmy - but all 4 wheels DO have some minor curb rash (you get a bit of that in 195K). No pulsation under braking, high or low speed, (front brakes and rotors, typical wear items, are fresh, it stops great even in a panic stop) Has some bumps and bruises, but, still looks very presentable when washed, and as far as I know has never had any paint-work or accidents. Dents & dings, yes- it has some. Worst spot on the car is the right rear fender. It has a slight but noticeable depression about 12” long at the height of a bikes handlebars, but even with this dent, it’s got no paint damage or cracking, it’s “just there” - 100% cosmetic. If you look closely at the car, yes, it’s a used 195K mile car. Stand back a bit and it does still look fantastic. I think they call it a “10 footer” When I bought it I car-faxed it and there was no damage history showing. It lived in Delaware and PA most of it’s life so the underside is also pretty darn clean. Should be many many years before rust will be an issue if it’s going to go live up north, it looks more like a 5 year old car underneath than it’s true age. These cars are known for their durability, IF well maintained. This one has been, so even though it does have higher mileage it should have a good bit of life left in it.
I think that’s about it. If you want to know anything else, please shoot me an e-mail. I will do my best to answer any questions you might have. If you want a wagon with good power, good handling and a stick, your options are pretty limited if you don’t want to break the bank - this should be a really good value for someone… You could easily pay as much as I’m asking on a much worse (and slower) car, that won’t have nearly as much life left in it.
