Description:

You are bidding on a clean and solid 2002 Saab 9-5 Linear wagon. I purchased this car from a private seller in NJ early this year primarily as a winter car so I didn't have to drive my 1983 300TD through the salt. I intended to simply daily drive it, without much care to aesthetics and restoration, but I quickly fell in love with the car and started to fix what was wrong. I've done a lot of work to make it a solid and reliable driver, but I've recently purchased a 9-5 Aero and it's time for this car to go to a new home.
The Good
As you can see in the photos, the car is clean with shiny paint and a very clean interior. The engine pulls strong and the turbo works as it should. There are no CEL issues. All of the accessories work, the AC blows cold, there are no faults on the climate control, the Harmon Kardon stereo sounds great, the car is truly enjoyable and entertaining to drive. That said, she has 127k miles (and counting) and has some battle scars from a life lived in and around NYC. There are small dings and scuffs in the paint, but the car presents well as you can see in the photos. There is a 3-4 inch scratch on the hood (see photos) and that's about the worst of it. The interior is very clean but far from perfect. The carpets have no stains, the seats are clean with a couple small spots on the passenger seat and the back seats have a couple of spots, but overall it looks really nice and presentable inside. The cargo area is clean, as is the headliner and folding package shelf.
For those of you familiar with these cars, this car has the oil pan modification fitted so the oil screen can easily be cleaned out periodically. According to the previous owner, the turbo, belt tensioner and struts were replaced soon before my ownership.
I have fixed or replaced the following parts in the last ten months/6000 miles, including items that are known issues in the Saab 9-5.
Installed Dunlop Winter SP snow tiresNew transmission mountsNew upper engine mountNew crank position sensorNew rear muffler
New vacuum linesNew turbo control valvesNew wastegate actuatorNew check valvesNew DIC cassetteNew NGK plugsNew cabin air filterNew valve cover gasketCleaned and replaced throttle body with good used unitNew dummy sharkfin antennaNew coolant temperature sensor and thermostatNew radiator and heater hosesNew washer nozzles
Within the last 1000 miles I have cleaned the evaporator drains, cleaned the MAF sensor, replaced the air filter, cleaned the oil pickup screen and changed the oil and filter with synthetic oil. A four-wheel alignment was also performed and the tires road-force balanced.
The Bad
The car is consuming coolant and will need a new head-gasket in the near future. This summer I replaced the head bolts and re-torqued them, but it didn't fix the problem. I drive the car about 200 miles per week in the city, taking my kids to school, running errands, etc. and I have to put in about a pint of coolant every two weeks. Also, if the car sits overnight there's some white smoke on startup and the sweet smell of burning coolant. Before buying the Aero, I was planning to fix the head gasket, buy a Stage 1 ECU and then enjoy the car. Now I'm hoping someone else will pick up the mantle.
The front sub-frame bushings are starting to go. The car is a quiet and comfortable dream on the highway, but on the terrible streets of NYC, there is some creaking and crashing. This has no effect on the alignment or driveability, but it's noticeable.
There is only one spot of rust on the car, and it's the typical 9-5 spot at the sill in front of the driver rear wheel. It's small now, but there's some bubbling. I have photographed it clearly, and there is no perforation.
The car had a salvage/rebuilt title in NJ an now has a clean NY title. I'm not sure why it didn't transfer to the NYS title, but it didn't. According to the previous owner, the car was in a front end accident in 2008 and rebuilt by a friend of his and bought by him. This was at 60-something thousand miles. I don't have pictures of the damage, but it looks like the hood, front bumper and front fenders were replaced. The repairs and paint match are about a 7.5-8 out of 10. The car looks good, and drives arrow-straight down the road, but there were a lot of shortcuts taken in terms of replacing damaged plastic parts in the engine bay. I addressed most, if not all of these problems, including fitting a new air filter housing, new top radiator mounts, new battery cover, and new headlights with intact upper mounting tabs. I'm not a duct tape and bailing wire kind of guy.
This car is being sold as-is where it is. I have made every effort to describe its condition honestly. If you have questions, please ask. I am requesting a $500 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours of the auction closing, and full payment within a week.
Please note, I will be keeping the Saab all-weather mats and the aux input shown in the photos.
