There were no bids the first time around, so we're re-listing a final time at a LOWER starting price.
You’re
considering a 1968 Saab 96 V4. It was
purchased in Corapolis, PA in February 1969. The car comes with a meticulously documented original owner history including
original bill of sale, window sticker and a complete chronology of service and mechanical
history culminating in transfer of ownership to the original owner’s son in June
1995 as witnessed by a notary public. At
that time the vehicle showed 33, 268 miles according to the latest service
receipt from the previous April. From
there, the car’s ownership and service history is not well documented. The Saab turned up in April 2014 in Marble Falls Texas where my father purchased the car. It had been stored indoors as part of a collection, apparently for
quite some time. He performed a thorough
servicing to recommission the Saab for the road and used it sparingly for
Sunday drives and local shows. The
vehicle now shows 34, 588 miles. We can make no definitive claims due to the gap in ownership and service records, but given its overall condition the possibility
that it has covered just over 1000 miles since 1995 is entirely
plausible.
The Saab has
had what appears to be a complete respray in its original color at some point
and it is holding up very well. It is
not a concourse job but probably as good as or better than it came from the
factory in single-stage polyurethane paint (not base-coat/clear coat) which
gives it a perfect period correct look. The panels are all arrow straight. I’ve taken close-ups of the finish’s worst flaws to give as accurate a
sense as possible of quality and condition. There is no rust evident anywhere on the car with the exception of the
door bottoms which appear to have been treated well before any serious rust
took hold. My father added an oil cooler
and electric fan for peace of mind in our hot climate. He reports that the car never once overheated
but that the gauge would begin to climb off the normal running temperature mark
if idling for extended periods. You can
see the dash pad is cracked and crudely repaired. The
interior is otherwise beautiful. The
engine and gearbox perform flawlessly as do all other electrical and mechanical
systems. I’ll spare the hyperbole and
let the pictures do the talking. There
can’t be many left in this condition.
We highly encourage an in-person or third party inspection before the end
of the auction. I know of no reason why the car could not be driven anywhere
but I advise trailering or transporting beyond a few hundred miles out of
respect for the car and conditions that prevail en route on today’s interstate
system. I’ll gladly answer
brief queries through Ebay. For a more in-depth description I recommend contacting my dad, Ben at (210)52 zero - 2 six 6 zero. He knows the car better than I, but does not have a computer.
Finally, this is a NO
RESERVE auction. If you bid, you are bidding to win, so please
ask any questions beforehand and do not bid unless you have made up
your mind and are prepared to follow through.
