2002 Saturn VUE V6 AWD & Towing Setup – Stalls Sometimes, Needs
Service
Rated for pulling up to 2, 500 pounds, this top-of-the-line
light SUV will be a good buy for someone willing to get it serviced and keep it
reasonably maintained.
I bought this vehicle new from a Saturn
dealership in 2003 and the odometer is now approaching 130, 000 miles. It rides
well, holds a lot of cargo (or 4 passengers), has taken me on highways to
beaches and mountains and nimbly hauled a garden trailer around town and once
pulled a 20-footer down an icy creek bed from a mountain top with good traction and no damage. It still has
plenty of utility and comfort features and a body in good shape for its age, but I no longer need a second car.
If you are interested
in buying, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION:
In this description, I
will list the good and bad as best as I know. Before buying or making an offer, read the complete description and understand:
(1) This car is being sold
“as-is, where-is.”
(2) The buyer will need to
pay a
$200 non-refundable deposi
t through PayPal within 48 hours of agreeing to buy. (Payment of the deposit takes
the car off the market and provides time for the buyer to complete the payment
and claim the vehicle (within 7 days or a later time by mutual agreement). It also helps cover eBay fees and other selling costs that will be assessed even if the buyer fails to complete the purchase. Thanks for your understanding.
(3) This is offered for
“local pickup.”
The buyer, or his designated representative, will
retrieve the car and title from an address in Germantown, TN, at a mutually
arranged time after paying any balance still due in the form of a bank cashier’s check or cash.

Most needing attention
: The “service soon” light has come on lately
and the car sometimes stalls while idling. On a couple occasions even though the starter “turned
over” the engine refused to start after dying at idle. The same restarting problem
sometimes occurs after a short stop in a parking lot on a shopping trip. After waiting about 20 minutes, it starts right up. (It
has a new battery. AutoZone tested the alternator). I handle this problem with
patience: keeping the engine speed up at red lights, avoiding lanes I’d rather
not stall in, and building in wait time when I take this car to the store, just in case. I
assume a buyer will not want to put up with that very long, unless he’s
getting the car for parts. I suspect the car’s electrical and computer controls
will need a diagnostic look-over to fix this problem.
