Description:

This Shelby GT500 was purchased by me in 2002 from a friend and Shelby enthusiast Tony Sousa. The car has been concourse restored to Div.2 standards and has been judged last at SAAC 35 in Sonoma, Calif. on Aug. 28, 2010. It was judged by SAAC expert judges and received a Silver award in Division 2. This car has lived its life in California.I have all the vehicles documentation including: Marti report, Build Sheet, Original invoice, Order sheet, Build sheet from under rear seat, Service letter, shop manual, and it has been in multiple publications. In Mustangs Forty Years it is on page 208 and the back cover. In Muscle Car color history Mustang 19641/2 - 1973 by David Newhardt it is on page 94-95, 99 and is pictures of this car at Irwindale drag strip.
The car has 147 miles on its restoration and has been trailered to events to maintain the cars new restoration. When restoring this car it was completely disassembled, and all paint was stripped from undercarriage, floor pans, frame rails, engine compartment, and five layers of paint jobs removed from the body. All body pieces have great fit and alignment including the original hood. Light tension springs for the hood have been used to keep it from bowing like you see on most all 69 Shelby's.The springs are not concours correct, but has maintained a very well fitting hood. The car was professionally painted with the correct color of Acapulco blue in a two stage paint (Base coat, clear coat). The driver side headlamp box has a crack in the side of the fiberglass that developed after reassembly and could be easily repaired. The original bumpers, chrome trim, hood locks were all re-finished. All stainless steel trim all polished. All of the glass is original Carlite and in good shape, except the Windshield. The original Windshield delaminated when removing all the glass during the restoration and had to be replaced with a brand new Carlite. The wheels are the original centers and have been professionally restored by paradise wheels with new outer rims that are correct to the originals. The wheels are riveted like the originals and are not wedded like reproductions. The correct Goodyear Polyglass tires are new and where placed on for concours judging.
The 428 has been rebuilt to stock specifications, and all 8 cylinders were sleeved in order to keep the original block with this car. The block was found bored .30 over and returned to original stock piston size. All receipts for the rebuild are available. The heads are correct date coded for the car, but are not the original number matching heads that came on this car. The heads are completely rebuilt with new stainless valves, hardened seats, three angle valve job, new matched springs and retainers with original adjustable rocker arm assembly. The Carburetor has been professionally concourse restored and is the correct date code for a manual transmission 428. The original smog system, heat riser tube, and air cleaner are all present. The close ratio Toploader transmission has been inspected and resealed. The rear differential was not the original housing or gears when I purchased the car. The correct housing was found and purchased. It has the correct 31 spline axles and the correct date code Nodular case that has been concours detailed, The third member has been professionally built with all new Traction lock, gears, bearings, and is currently 3:50 ratio and not the 4:30's. The original plan was to drive the car when I was restoring the car and wanted some friendlier gears for the highway. All of the suspension has been rebuilt with new bushings, ball joints, tie rods, springs, shocks, etc.. The steering components have all been rebuilt with original ford parts including the P/S control valve.
The interior was freshened up with a new headliner, visors, carpet, sail panels, seat upholstery, seat foam, and original ford weather stripping. It maintains the original dash pad, door panels, console, that have been freshened up.The rear fold down seat has been freshened up and unfortunately has a very small tear in the seat back. The seat belts and retractors are original and in good shape and have not been restored. The shifter is a new competition hurst shifter and is not the original, I have the shifter that came with the car , but it will need to be rebuilt.
I have owned this car for 13 years and I have represented this car to the best of my knowledge, and please ask me any questions about the car that are not listed in the description. I have many more pictures of the car in different stages of restoration, and I have receipts from previous owners dating back to 1986. All receipts of the restoration, and all documents for the car will be included with the purchase of the car. Please call me for any questions 559-824-3149
