Original/Unrestored 1963 Studebaker Avanti - a “Survivor”
The car is a 1963 Studebaker Avanti R1 and was the 3, 668th ever built at the Studebaker Plant in South Bend, Indiana. The car was originally purchased new from Simonson-Schactmayer, Inc., a Studebaker/Mercedes-Benz dealer in Santa Monica, California on March 27, 1964 for 5, 063.00 but wasn't delivered to the dealer until very late in 1963 and was titled by the dealer as a 1964. Upon purchase, the owner drove it to his home in San Luis Obispo, California and continued to drive it as his everyday car until January of 1965 at which time I purchased the car which had 9, 000 miles showing on the odometer. It is Avanti Red with fawn and black interior, a R-1 with a 4 speed B/W transmission and a 3:63 rear end with 56, 868 original miles on it. The interior is all original with slight normal wear on the drivers seat and virtually no wear on the back seat. It has won many awards in past years at SDC and, Avanti Shows not to mention many Concours d Elegance shows on the west coast. The car is 100% Original/Unrestored or a “Survivor” as they now are called. The only “new equipment that I have installed are rubber items like belts and hoses, a NOS regulator, water pump, and fuel pump. When I rebuilt the brake system I had stainless steel inserts put in the disk brake cylinders Everything else is as it came from the factory.
The car has been garaged, covered and run but not driven for the last two years as I was working on my 5 other Collector cars. In October of this year I decided to sell the car to trim down my cars as we are downsizing our lifestyle and moving to a smaller house with less garage space. With this in mind, I drained all of the few gallons of “old” gas, flushed 3 gallons of new gas thru and drained that and put in 3 gallons of fresh 97 octane gas. I have installed new distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, plug wires, spark plugs, and rebuilt the original Carter AFB 4 barrel carburetor with a new kit that works with ethanol fuel. I also installed new radiator hoses, new belts and a new 3EE battery. Everything else is as it came from the factory including the original spare tire.
This vehicle is being sold “as is, where is” and is the responsibility of the winning bidder to arrange for pickup/transportation of this vehicle. You are bidding on a classic example of Studebaker history, the 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Vehicle is incredibly solid, with original paint starting to show its age in places & all numbers matching. The car spent its life in the San Francisco Bay Area with the majority of the mileage being freeway miles; all original panels, uncut and unmolested. Description as follows:

· Borg-Warner T-10 close ratio 4 speed manual transmission
· Power steering and power disc brakes on the front brakes
· 2 dual exhaust
Interior:
· All original interior with dealer installed head rests
· Full set working original gauges
· Original headliner with roll bar
· All upholstery is in very nice condition with normal wear on the driver’s seat
· All glass in very good condition
Exterior: Body # RQ3540

· 52 year old original paint is in good shape for its age showing some wear from waxing and has a few parking lot paint nicks
· Exterior chrome and trim in good shape for its age
· A solid, straight example, great panel fit, no accidents
· Comes with car cover, bra, original owner ‘s manual and full set of shop manuals, 1963 Avanti sales brochure, Factory build sheet and work/dealer delivery order.
In closing, a survivor like this are near to impossible to find in this original/unrestored condition.
