This truck was used in the filming the Garth Brooks music video Wrapped up in You. The last two photos are from the early 2000's and show the truck as it could be. One is taken on the set of the video production on the town square in Watertown Tennessee.
I have had this truck for the last 19 years. I bought it after an amateur restoration and used it for a personal residential home pickup. Gardening, mulch and cruise night, that sort of thing.
I did two tours as an Army contractor in 2012 and when I returned it would not start and the brakes were down. I moved to Texas and have not had time to bring it here to work on. The truck is located at 37766 La Follette, Tennessee and in my private hanger (which is for sale). My wife and I are downsizing and I have no plans anymore for the restoration of this Champ.
I have a brand new still in the original Studebaker - Packard crate overdrive 3 speed for the truck along with the proper throttle linkage. In 1996, I installed a NOS rear axle (not twin traction). Engine will run after a carb cleaning (ethanol poisoning), but burns oil and should be overhauled. Front left wheel cylinder sprouted a leak. I also have some front wheel bearing seals, spare axle shafts, and may have a brake drum or two. Aluminum trailer it is sitting on can be yours for any reasonable offer. Trailer needs some work, let's talk. If you want to clean carb, and fix the brakes you could drive it home if you are brave and skilled enough with a tool pouch. You can use my hanger for a couple days while I'm there.
Truck bed has a hole in the floor, maybe about 10 square inches or so in the front left corner. I have had the hole in it since purchase and used a piece of hanger siding to cover it. The truck also has fiberglass fenders. The fenders I believe came from Studebaker International and are very high quality. I've never had any trouble with them. Tires have good tread and mounted in 2004.
I am leaving East Texas June 5th on my motorcycle and will be at the hanger in East Tennessee around June 10th to assist the new owner with their purchase. I have to have a Uhaul truck loaded and ready to leave for Texas by June 14th. So plan on using that window if you are coming after it yourself.
The hanger is located 8 miles up a twisting mountain road 45 minutes from Interstate 75. it would be impractical for a full size auto transporter to go there. Plan your expenses to include having a wrecker pick up the truck and bring it to the interstate during that 4 day window. If you can't pick it up right away, plan on securing a spot at a storage lot in Jacksboro Tennessee close to the interstate. It must be out of the hanger before I leave for Texas since I have a renter moving into hanger with his airplane.
The 1/2 ton suspension is light duty enough to give a reasonable ride and it was always fun to drive. A good overhaul and addition of the overdrive transmission would make for a good driver. Floors need to be replaced using Classic Enterprises stamped floorpans Floors are not rotted, just repaired improperly by an amateur, and doors don't fit correctly as a resulted.
Seat is in good shape, as well as carpet, and door panels. A good cleaning would make them presentable. Windshield took a hit with a rock years ago and needs replacement.
Call me at 865-978-0262 if you have any questions.
I will bring title to Tennessee with me. Will be signed when cash is in hand or legitimate cashiers check in hand.
