Description:

I guess you could say that this car is a... (wait for it)... Barn Find!
I am a 40-year Studebaker collector and I just acquired this as a new project, but my wife has fallen in love with another car, so there's been a change of plans...(!)
This is a running, driving project that is not quite roadworthy but will drive on and off a car carrier with ease. A California car all it's life, it enjoyed (some would say suffered) a Tijuana-style interior & Earl Shieb exterior freshening up in, I'm guessing the '70's. This car was a stalled project of the older gentleman I purchased it from, who owned it a little over 10 years.
The car is a very straight, iconic bullet-nosed Studebaker, equipped with my favorite overdrive transmission, that moves and stops under its own power. The body has a few bubbles and signs of bondo, but the floor has only scale, NO rust through or soft spots. The trunk is likewise scaly but very solid with only a few pinholes in the bottom of the spare tire well. The engine seems to run very well with its new fuel pump, cleaned gas tank, and fresh tune-up. It apparently was rebuilt at some point and painted blue. It's equipped with a wonderful transmission, the electric overdrive, however I have only driven the car up to about 20 mph in second gear . The windshield is very good, acceptable to me for a driver at least, with only minor delaminating bubbles near the center divider. The back glass is excellent, but several flat glass side pieces will need to be replaced.
New parts that came already installed on the car when I bought it include rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders, front brake hoses, fuel pump, vacuum advance unit, and all tuneup parts. Parts that came in the trunk that I installed include a NOS voltage regulator, a NOS hood ornament and NOS rear fender (actually door) splash guards. I began to install the front wiring harness that came with the car and completed that enough to start the car. Right now the car starts with the key in an aftermarket switch, instead of the button on the floor. The rest of the original wiring harness has been disconnected, so nothing else electrical works. The oil pressure gauge works and shows good pressure - 60psi when started. Also included with the car, uninstalled, are a set of front brake shoes, one brake drum, a rear brake hose, and a NOS steering column seal. I was going to do the 8 volt battery conversion with this car so there is a brand-new eight volt battery in the car. I have not yet adjusted the voltage regulator to complete the conversion. I installed a set of strictly driver quality, full wheel covers that are technically only correct for 1951 and 1952 Studebakers but look right. Also technically incorrect are the 1951 or '52 rear bumper guards
The title is clear and in-hand and the car is currently registered with DMV (non-op) so there are no back fees due the great state of California.
I would have loved to have taken this car to the next level, but we have found The One we were looking for. And, yes, it is another Studebaker! Feel free to email your questions and ask for more pictures.
A $500 non-refundable PayPal deposit is required upon winning the auction, with the balance due within two weeks by cash in person, direct deposit or cashiers check or. Shipping of the car will of course be up to the buyer and we of course will help your shipper load.
