1963 Studebaker Hawk

Studebaker Hawk (1963)

Description:

This car was a museum display for about 14 years. I know this because the prior dealer said so ( a reputable collector car seller) and the tires were dated 2001 (replaced 2015) and had no wear at all. The dealer certified the mileage on the title and I find nothing to indicate it isn't correct. The original paint is Rose Mist, a kind of pink. The build sheet shows the color as Champagne Gold but there is no evidence of that color whatever. The paint was changed to a Studebaker correct brown probably when it was put on display but not painted on the door jams and trunk and if you were just showing the car from behind ropes, that makes sense. Anyway, I painted everywhere they missed. The chrome and stainless is excellent, being near perfect except for the middle windshield molding. The paint is really nice, at least a 3, but not show quality because there are little defects on close examination. No one notices except the most finicky. Interior is likewise a 3. The dash is African mahogany as the vinyl original was really tired. The original cross hatch is included.
Engine has 150 psi in all cylinders, does not burn oil or leak. Starts instantly. A/C is cold. New flywheel ring gear and new clutch bearing, plate, disc, turned flywheel, etc. New starter drive and brushes. All controls and switches work correctly but clock does not. Radio is a modern am/fm plus USB. The axle ratio is 3.73 which with the .7 Overdrive gives a very relaxed 2000 rpm at 65. The engine is high torque at low rpms so it needs hardly any throttle to accelerate or start. And like all Studebakers, very good gas mileage. I get 25 in mixed town and freeway.
Everyone wants to know about rust. There was some in the trunk and repaired at some point with fiberglass. I see no rust now. I repaired the driver and passenger foot wells with welded steel panels and then glassed over that and then sealed from the underside with flex-seal. The total area was about two square feet. The rear wells are perfect.
Color correct luggage is optional. All period or slightly later American Tourister. Original 1963 owners manual. Not a reproduction but not from this car. Workshop manual included. For best technical advice however, I recommend joining Studebaker Drivers Club. So user friendly. Very inexpensive.
I am selling because I bought another collector car just last week. (I tend to get bored with a car like a lot of you) and my garage can really best handle three although I have four in it now. Savannah is easy to get to from anywhere on the East Coast should you want to see it or drive it home. Nice time of year for a road trip.
