You are looking at a 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40. These are, by far, the most iconic production vehicle Toyota Motor Corporation has ever built. They changed little in the 29 years this model was made. This is one of the more desirable years for the FJ-Series. They have a removable top & doors & flip-down windshield for open-air driving fun, 4x4 go-anywhere capability, and rugged good looks that are second-to-none! You can find a whole array of aftermarket soft-top configurations, or even a factory FJ-45 hard-top pickup half-cab for this vehicle; making it a very versatile SUV, pickup, 4x4, convertible combo! They feature an overhead valve inline 6 cylinder engine, rugged frame-on-body construction & solid front & rear axles with sealed-ball type u-joints so you can cross creeks & rivers without having to re-pack your wheel-bearings with grease.
One might not guess it from their relatively little size, but these rigs are built really tough! Even with their short wheel-base, they handle much better than CJ Jeeps on loose gravel roads & such and are not as squirrely in my experience. Land Cruisers have been used in Safari Expeditions all around the World for the past 60 years, and have tried & true off-road capability! With 8 windows, there are really no blind-spots in these rigs. This one we have for sale remains mostly original, but with a few modern upgrades.
This odometer only has 69, 557 miles on it. This is a non power-steering model, but has power brakes. The dash switches and levers are all still intact which is pretty uncommon for these vehicles. The engine was rebuilt and freshened up with Clifford 6=8 Performance Parts, exhaust headers, and a modern high-energy ignition system for performance, fuel-mileage & reliability. The engine is surprisingly powerful! There are lots of new parts, such as belts, hoses, valve-cover, air-cleaner, alternator, battery, battery cables, distributor, ignition box, Live Wires brand spark-plug wires, starter, electric fuel-pump etc. etc. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears just as it should. The four-wheel-drive transfer-case works flawlessly and there are lockout hubs on the front axle (for free-wheeling when not in use to save on fuel). The brakes are in good shape, and freshened up in the not too distant past. The headlights (high & low beam) as well as turn signals work. This vehicle doesn’t drip fluids on the ground when parked, and is neat as a pin under the hood. The frame was sanded down & painted at the same time as the body was painted (probably about 10 years ago).
The headliner is missing, and will need to be replaced (if you care about such things)... otherwise some sound-deadening roll-on coating could be applied, and call it done. The seats were upholstered in sort of a burlap-type fabric which has scenes depicting outdoorsman type stuff like fishing and canoeing on it. It's not for everyone, but something that the previous owner likely paid a lot of money to have done. I ALMOST got out the vinyl & carpet dye, and just sprayed them all one color (beige, gray, or black)... but decided to leave them be in case the next owner is in love with it. The dash pad is in decent shape, but has a couple spiderweb cracks in it. The rear bumperettes are in good shape, and not dented in. There is a rear-heater option with this vehicle, but the only A/C you get is to take the top & doors off.
So many FJ-40s have been altered with gas-sucking Chevy V8s & the like. This one has a few mods, but remains mostly original & unmolested. We’ve priced it far cheaper than comparable other Land Cruisers on eBay. Despite being 43 years old, and not a 100-point show vehicle... it's a very decent daily driver... a collectible, classic 4x4 built with Toyota quality! Here are 2 videos of the vehicle in depth & detail:

Thanks for looking, and we welcome anyone to come inspect this vehicle in person throughout the duration of the auction, or arrange an inspection at one of the local garages in town (which we can drop it off at), but by bidding on, or otherwise agreeing to purchase this vehicle, you acknowledge that it is being sold As Is with no warranty. A scan of the front and back of the clean title can be provided to you, and a $250 security deposit is due within 5 days of auction’s end via PayPal, or money order. If you intend on having this vehicle delivered, a wire-transfer or cashier’s check is preferred, and Atlas Auto Shippers (888) 285-2706 is a company I've used & had excellent luck with over the years. They have competently moved many classic cars around the country for me, with careful track-records and are very competitively priced transporters. The title and vehicle will be released upon the clearing of funds. If additional time is needed to get it picked up, storage is not a problem, but please have it paid for within 2 weeks of auction’s end either way. If picking this vehicle up in person, please bring cash for the remainder of payment (or a cashier's check from a National bank chain like Wells Fargo or Bank of America, so we can go right down and verify the funds on the spot at a local branch here in my town). Deposits are considered non-refundable. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

“Roof rain-gutter track above windshield on passenger side is dented from a tree-branch, & window is cracked below it. Brakes work great, but pull to one side a little upon first application. Clutch has some chatter upon takeoff from a stop, but has lots of life left in it. Paint is a little faded on hood (would shine right back up with a quick buff-job), & there are some dents where the hood has been opened up all the way against the roof. 1 windshield wiper is missing. 1 corner marker light is burned out. Horn doesn't work. Rear hatch latch sticks, and has to be opened from inside the vehicle. There are paint chips, scratches, & some rust-bubbling in various places, particularly the rear quarter panels, but otherwise, the body's really solid and otherwise rust-free. There's one small rust hole in the floor, but the frame is super solid, as are the outriggers that hold the body-mounts as you can see in the pictures. Window roll-down handles are in the glove box.”
