Description:

1984 BJ60 Toyota Landcruiser: 4X4, 3B Diesel, H55 5 speed manual. VIN # JT3BJ60G5E0013103. This has been my daily driver for the last six years, and I have the Alabama title and current registration in hand.
Just in time for hunting season! I've NEVER gotten this thing stuck. NO RESERVE. For those of you who are seriously looking at this truck, take the time to read this description. You know what it is and what it is worth, but I will refresh your memory as to the specifics.
Toyota had been producing the FJ60/BJ60 wagon configuration for four years by 1984, and they mated either a 2F straight six to a 4 Speed manual transmission or the 3B, 4 cylinder diesel to the H55 5 speed manual transmission.
You are bidding on the 3B/ H55 configuration—bullet proof and capable of over 500, 000 miles before any serious repairs are needed. This is THE most desired Toyota configuration available. It’s the one that started and continues to confirm the superior manufacturing and durability of Toyota Trucks.
Of course, these diesel trucks were never imported to the United States because of the acid rain related legal restrictions put into place in the early 1980s. They went to Canada and the rest of the world and the US got the [only slightly] inferior gas configuration. Our loss. Landcruiser fanatics seek these trucks as they are or in order to convert a gas [FJ] model to diesel [BJ].
About this truck:
This truck came off the Japanese assembly line in March of 1984 and was imported to Canada, where it spent the first 25 years of its life. I bought it in October of 2009 from a gentleman in Montreal; I drove it from Montreal to Jackson, TN the following two days, registering it in Alabama. When I moved to New York, I brought it with me.
In the intervening six years, I have replaced several things—cooling system (Sept. 2011), starter (April 2012), brakes (Dec 2013), tires (Nov. 2014), exhaust (Dec. 2014), clutch (Jan 2015)—but I haven’t had to do anything to the drive train. It has effective glow plugs and a block heater, so it starts EVERY SINGLE TIME, even in subzero temps. The speedometer reads 377, 000 km (237, 635 mi), but it stopped working about three years ago. I would estimate that I have put maybe 30, 000 more km on it since then. It has probably 254, 375mi on it now. You could get 200, 000 more miles out of this engine/ transmission before needing to rebuild it. Even with the bigger Bridgestone A/Ts, it gets between 18 and 22 MPG. Simply put, it’s a great, dependable truck.
So you’ll ask: “if it’s so great, why are you selling it?” Like so many Toyotas, it suffers from body rot. From 1990-2004, in Canada, it was religiously undercoated (the stickers on the driver’s door prove this). When I bought it, I coated the lower exterior, the roof, and all of the interior floor surfaces with Rhino Lining in 2010 and that gave it a little more life. Nevertheless, the stupid New York habit of salting the roads has done its damage. The truck probably has another 2 years of body left, but the lower body and the back of the frame is in pretty rough shape as you will note from the pictures.
I bought an FJ40 and was going to pull the motor and tranny out of this one, but a new house and limited time have changed my priorities. The older FJ will fulfill my hunting needs. My loss is your gain!
On that note, I have been pricing 3B engines and H55 transmissions in prep for selling this BJ60. You can purchase a 3B from Spector Off-Road for $7600 and a H55 for $4680, before shipping; or, you can get one of their Half-cuts for about $8000., when they are available. With this truck, you get both of those things, plus the transfer case, the clutch, etc., both axles, the entire fuel system, cooling system, the wiring harness, and a bunch of non-rusted body parts. For less money. And you can drive it home, even if home is in California—yes, I would not hesitate to drive it across the country—I’ve already done it once. Or, if you are less adventurous, U-Ship or other companies can get it to your door for around $1000.
Bidding starts at $4999.99. I will need a $500, non-refundable deposit via PayPal within 24hrs of purchase. The rest is payable with Cash in person, Money Order, or Cashier’s check. No warranty is explicit or implied.
So, this truck is perfect for someone with the desire to convert their FJ60 to a BJ60. I hate to see it go, but let the bidding begin.
