The Triumph Stag enjoyed a brief production run from 1970 through 1973. Styled by Giovanni Michelotti, who also penned the Spitfire and TR4, it was available as a convertible with built-in roll bar or with a detachable hardtop roof. The Stag was Triumph’s first car to use a V8 engine and was a rare foray into the luxury 2+2 grand touring class. Unfortunately the Triumph engine has proven to be problematic over the years, so many Stags have undergone conversion to a Land Rover-sourced V8, which is virtually the same size, weighs less, is eminently more “tunable”, and has earned a reputation for reliability. This 1971 Triumph Stag already has its motor mounts re-located for the conversion, and comes with a completely rebuilt 4.2 liter Land Rover V8, ready to install. All of the stock interior components are included, as well as the original Triumph engine. The body is in great shape, with no rust or damage. When properly completed, this “Stag Rover” promises to be a unique and reliable classic touring car.
