TR4A IRS, 1967
13, 900
original miles since new
I first saw this car when
acquired in 1994 form the estate of a deceased collector in Omaha, Nebraska who
acquired the car in 1979 and, with 7, 900 original miles, rarely drove it…..was
in incredibly clean original condition, original paint, interior, top, chrome, zero rust, excellent running and driving. Its prior history: sold in 1967
by Ruckle Pontiac in Yonkers, NY,
For the new owner in
Greenwich, at 7, 900 original miles, we stripped the engine, found virtually no
wear, honed the bores, added standard rings, cut the rods to -.010”, standard
mains, new guides, replaced the seats, raised the compression ratio 1.1 points, installed a 288” lift half race cam, new clutch, balanced, replaced most of the
other internal parts, rebuilt the SU carbs, added powder coated headers, radiator boiled and pressure checked, worked on suspension, brakes, added rear
tube shocks, new front shocks, new paint in original color (with no bondo other
than glazing), new interior, top, chrome, trim, etc. After little use, was sold to another
affluent Connecticut resident in Suffield, and
then another in New Milford. Finally, back to us.
It has led a charmed
life…..always garaged, just a few hundred miles of use every year, kept in near
pristine condition, and now, with 6, 000 miles on all of the work, ready for a
new owner. Our tests: 155-165 psi compression in every cylinder, 65
psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke, excellent synchromesh action, smooth ride
and handling, has been fitted with a Blaupunkt stereo, expensive Nardi wood
steering wheel, has a new tonneau cover, very clean engine and trunk bays, excellent original wiring, badge bar, new seat belts, on and on and on.
Guessing, maybe 115hp, car
runs and drives very well. Tight and
with no rattles, Not purporting it was
done to Pebble Beach show standards (and have not bothered to sand and paint
the floors in flat black…but easily done) however, as a local show entrant, a
fun country road and distance cruising classic, just about ideal.
As a TR4A IRS, offers….a
2138cc 4 cylinder OHV engine, rated at 104hp but with the modifications, probably a good bit more, all synchromesh transmission, disc brakes, independent rear suspension, roll up windows, face level air vents, 2+2 seating
(room in the back for two kids… and yes, we can install seat belts and a seat
pad), real classic style and contemporary use and performance.
Car has, in its large
document packet, the invoices (and photos) from the 1994-6 reconditioning work, registrations back to 1979, the original Ruckle Pontiac insignia on the car’s
trunk, and a lot more.
This is a real opportunity to
acquire an impressive near fifty year old English classic with a genuine
history. We have the British Motor
Industry Heritage Trust document sheet, and all in all, a fun car to own. And, unlike all of its previous owners,
drive.
We have the
documents, we know the car, had done prudent tests, but, in the end, it is
STILL an old (albeit, very good) classic sports car offered for sale with no
warranty expressed or implied. Car is offered for sale on our site and in a number of publications, is available for immediate sale and thus we reserve the right to remove this auction at any time and for any reason. We can
assist in shipping anywhere in the world and can provide our own truck/trailer
delivery within a 300 mile radius. We
require immediate contact upon sale, a 20% deposit within 48 hours and full
payment within seven days via check or w/transfer with car released upon
confirmation of funds credited to our account. It has full legal paperwork from Connecticut. Thank you for looking, and good luck!
