Description:

I am assisting my lady friend in selling her car. We often go on tours with it and it has been to California and Canada as we toured with the local Triumph club in addition to numerous local jaunts
The beautiful Stag body was designed by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti to compete with other European 4 passenger sorts car.
Unfortunately they were originally powered by a V-8 engine with poor design and very few still running with the original engines. Many are now powered with Rover V-8 engines and quite a few have the Tr-6 engines which are well proven and seem to run forever.
British cars are not designed for American roads and are geared too low. One way to combat that is to add an overdrive which is very costly and unreliable and you would still have the British missionary which has it's own problems.
There are two companies producing adapters to put Toyota 5 speed transmissions in Triumph automobiles, Herman Van Dann and Eaglegate. I chose the Eaglegate because the other one has a hydraulic throwout bearing and I do not like the idea of having hydraulic hoses in my engine compartment. The Toyota transmission was reconditioned by a local specialist.
The Toyata conversion is very popular in Triumph groups as the 5 speed is actually an overdrive in 5th gear with a ratio of about .8 to 1 so the engine speed goes down about 25% when shifting from 4th to 5th . Much nicer for American driving. I like it so well that I have already purchased another Eaglegate kit for my 1947 Triumph 1800 roadster I am restoring with a TR-4 engine.
This car has a hard top and when it is removed thre is a roll bar still in place. The convertible top has never been used since she had the car and is still in the top well.
She is selling it because we hope my restoration is complete by next summer and the garage is full, this car is stored in the garage of my rental house 100 yards from home.
Overall it is in average condition, the older paint job is holding up O K but there is some rust under the paint in the usual Stag places. A new paint and derusting would be in order in the future. It is a car that draws attention and is fun to drive.
The drawback is that the power steering did not come with the conversion and if you feel that you really need power steering I am sure you can figure out a way to add it.
The primary driver of this car has been a 5'-2 senior lady and she has had no problems with it not having power steering. She rarely lets me drive it.
