Triumph Spitfire (1980)
for sale

Price: US $1,525.00

Description:

Up for sale is my 1980 Triumph Spitfire.
First, you will notice that this car doesn't have the ugly black bumpers which destroyed the look of such a stylish car in the 1980. Instead the black bumpers and all the welded on steel needed to support the ugly bumpers has been removed and replaced with the English chrome bumpers that were on all the cars except those sold in the USA. In fact the new bumpers were handmade for me in high grade polished stainless steel in England and shipped to the USA specifically for this car. They are spotless and should last for many years and unlike chrome if you scratch them you will be able to buff them out. these bumpers are fantastic.
The frame was fully striped and no part was put back unless it was in first class condition. The suspension springs, shocks and bushings were all replaced. The differential was not just overhauled it was rebuild. The drive shafts were rebuilt and the propshaft was replaced. The gearbox was in good condition but the oil seals were still replaces. The clutch was replaced and the flywheel was reconditioned. The brakes pads, drums and discs were all replaced along with the master cylinder.
The engine was in good condition when I first got the car, but I still completely rebuild it from the main bearings to the rocker cover. It has new 9:1 compression pistons, a British parts Northwest modern profile cam, cam followers, tapits, fuel pump, oil pump, generator, water pump, plus a lot more.
The cooling was also upgraded with a new aluminium radiator with new hoses.
The car also has a brand new interiors. even the dash has been upgraded with beautiful birdseye maple. And don't miss looking at the fantastic looking steering wheel. The gages are original but have been fitted with new chrome fittings. The radio is new and even has a back up camera.
The car has a new convertible top (But has been used over the last year so look nearly new). The car is also fitted will a tonneau cover that look fantastic.
As you can see the car got new paint. Where the color isn't exactly right it's close and everyone seem to like the way it pops. As I have mentioned the car has been driven over the last year so the paint has seen the road and would need a little work to bring it back to showroom new condition. The car was painted with a base coat / clear coat on top of an epoxy primer. The paint has never been color sanded so if you wanted to do this you could and I think you would get a terrific result.
The old automatic choked carburetor us out, as it has been replace by a Weber DCOE 40. The head that came with the car is also gone and replaced with with a new (not rebuild) new head with big valves.
The car also has the original wheels which I think is fantastic. They were taken off and reconditioned. but if they are not for you you can go for the aftermarket wheels sold by Moss and others.
Finally, the car has has an improved exhaust system installed. Everyone seems to love they should low rumbly sound of the new can and higher compression pistons playing through this exhaust. I think i must be getting old as i think its a little noisy.
So to sum it up, it drives like a new car with a little extra horsepower and look really good. not sure how much extra power the car has from standard but it enuff to make the car feel a lot more up to date.
With all of the above done you should get years of happy and fun driving but it could also go bang tomorrow. So please ask questions and only bid it you know your way around these cars and and are prepared to keep them well maintained.
Thanks for looking and good bidding.I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
