Description:

1966 Triumph Spitfire MK2. This MK2 model is the nicest and most desirable of the Triumph Spitfires. This is in exceptionally nice condition, especially noting that it is now about 50 years old. It was restored by the previous owner (I have pictures of the body-off restoration), probably about 20 years ago. I have had a number of old British sports cars, and this one is one of the nicest I have had. It is very original, and even has the original Triumph radio (the radio is not connected, so I do not know if it actually works). Most important, it is solid and I do not see any rust anywhere, as the pictures show. It always starts right up and runs great. It has newer Kumho tires. I even have the sales invoice from 1966 showing the chassis number of 71807L, the original warranty, and the service book (showing that the oil change and service was first done at 1, 266 miles on Oct. 1, 1967). It seem to have the original ACME white soft top.
There are only a couple of things that I can think of that a prospective buyer should know. It has the original 4-speed transmission with a non-synchronized first gear. It is just a lot of fun to drive, but I drive it like I think you should drive a 50-year old car and am careful in going through the gears. However, every so often, it will scrape going into 2nd gear. This is usually a sign that the 2nd gear synchro is getting worn. I was planning on eventually getting a rebuilt transmission from Quantum Mechanics (well known for Triumph transmissions)--a fully synchronized 4-speed is about $800 and the installation is fairly straightforward. The buyer may want to plan on doing this in the future.
The second thing is that a couple of months ago, it began to leave a puddle of transmission fluid on my garage floor. I was going to deal with this when I replaced the transmission, but the leak seems to have stopped now, and it drives and shifts fine. But, it is something the new buyer would want to know about. Other than that, it leaks remarkably little, especially for a British car.
The pictures show the condition of the car. I will be glad for anyone to inspect the car if you are in the Orlando area. It is also being advertised locally, and I reserve the right to sell it locally.
