In its day the
Triumph TR6 was equivalent to the modern day Corvette. The TR6, the
consummation of the original TR line, is an attractive, fast and very enjoyable
two-seater. It's fine performance, good road handling and reliability, plus its
sheer character, make it a sports car which is a joy to drive and own. Many saw
the TR6 as the last of a breed of hairy-chested British sports cars, and as the
only appropriate replacement for the Austin Healey 3000, which had ceased
production in 1968. The Triumph TR6 came standard with rack-and-pinion
steering, 15-inch wheels and wide tires for its day, disc brakes up front, pile
carpet, bucket seats, and a full compliment of instruments set in a wooden
dashboard.
Offered for sale is a rust-free, accident-free, unmolested, numbers-matching, 1971 Triumph TR6 with only 80K original miles in great mechanical and cosmetic
condition. Acquired from a car collector who restored the car a few years ago
and afterward used it sparingly. It is presented in arguably the best original
color combination of Signal Red (Code 32) over Black and comes with an original
jack, matching spare wheel and tire, original tools, owner's manual, near-new
top boot cover, near-new tonneau, a complete set of keys and a clean/clear title. The glass is clear, the chrome is bright, the gauges, lights, turn-signals, wipers, horn, AM-FM radio, near-new tires, near-new convertible
top, etc., are all in excellent condition and all function properly.
With its original 2.5 liter six-cylinder, twin-Stromberg carburetored engine
mated to its original close-ratio, all syncromesh 4-speed manual transmission
in a package weighing under 2200 lbs., this TR6 delivers sweet-revving, spirited performance and a very musical exhaust note. The semi-trailing independent
rear suspension has a natural tendency to squat under power which
only adds considerably to the sensation of jack-rabbit acceleration from
standstill. With its large 15 wheels, long final gearing on its 4-speed
manual transmission, comfortable seats and generous trunk space, this TR6
cruises effortlessly with two passengers and their luggage at freeway speeds.
With its chiseled good looks, this TR6 gets thumbs-up
wherever it goes and is ready for cruising on a night on the town, enjoying back county roads or taking a long road trip. For more
