Up for auction is a 1966 Volkswagen Beetle with the unique over-sized ragtop sunroof option. This is a running, driving bug in its original color. The engine runs well and the transmission and clutch shift as they should. The engine is a bit newer (serial #AH178163). The car has 163, 679 on the odometer and comes with a clear title. Overall the body is pretty solid on this bug as you can see in the pictures. It does have some typical rust in the floor pans and heater channels so those areas will need work. Some amateur patches were done on the floors and lower part of the inner wheel wells. The driver’s side rear fender has some dings and paint flaking off and has some rust where it attaches to the body. It has been gone over with touch-up paint as well. The bumpers have some surface rust on the top edge, and the car has a small chrome rack on the back for carrying skis or fishing poles. The trunk lid, trunk, hood, and spare tire well are very solid. The canvas sunroof top is in great shape. The glass is all good and all lights work. The brakes have some new parts including a master cylinder, a line, and two new wheel cylinders. Inside, the seats are the originals; the driver’s seat has tears, the passenger and rear seat are nice. The headliner is original and has stains on it. The wide whitewall tires are probably 20+ years old and are quite dry. Overall the beetle is a great project car that runs and drives, but will need some restoration.
