Vehicle Year and Make: 1979 Volkswagen Beetle

This particular Cabriolet was the deluxe edition that had
the following upgrades: faux wood instrument panel, VDO clock, leather wrapped
steering wheel with silver lined horn pad, and Lemmertz “Sport” wheels with black
hub caps. This vehicle also has the original VW Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Owner
has original operator's guide, mud flaps and two convertible top covers – one
white and one black. This vehicle has had
Dura-Coat rustproofing installed presumably by the original
owner when the vehicle was new. A full car cover and front end “bra” will also

Comments
Engine/Engine Compartment: Engine
compartment is neat, clean and totally original. There is no sign of rust, collision damage or repairs. Owner commented that nothing has been replaced on
the engine from new other than a new battery. All wiring is placed in correct
VW raceways with no splicing or torn insulation. All hoses and duct work is
factory-supplied and in excellent condition. Owner started the engine up which
started immediately then sat down to a nice idle. When running I observed on
oil smoke from the exhaust.
Chassis: Underside of vehicle is
totally original with some minor surface rust but no collision damage or repairs.
All chassis parts appear to be original with no recent replacement of any panel
or suspension item.
Bottom of the engine is clean with no
excessive oil leakage. The exhaust system has some surface rust but when
vehicle was started the system appears to be completely serviceable.
Tires are Continental narrow whitewall
style 165SR 15” with no sidewall height which were the original tires supplied
by VW when the vehicle was new. Tread depth is from 7 mm to 8 mm with no
sidewall cracking. Wheels are the Lemmertz Sport style in good condition
displaying some minor surface rust but no “curb rash, ” scratches, or dents.
Interior: The front bucket seats are in
excellent condition with no tears, rips, seam splitting or wear at all. The rear
bench seat is in pristine condition. Both door panels are also in excellent condition
with no sun, water damage, or waviness. Carpeting is in brand-new condition
with matching protective floor mats. The padded underside of the fabric
convertible top is also in excellent condition. The padded section of the
instrument
panel has no cracks, sun damage or
waviness. All instruments are easy-to-read with excellent bezels and clear
lenses.
Exterior: The exterior paint is
original factory-applied with no drips, runs or poor prep noted. I observed no chips, dings or exterior scratches. Both doors, forward trunk lid and rear engine
cover line up well with the rest of the body. Black fender welting is in
excellent condition and correctly applied. Opening the forward trunk displays
some chipped paint that is hidden when lid is closed. Both front and rear
chrome bumpers are
in very good condition needing minor
cleaning. The rubber “impact” strips on front and rear are undamaged and in
excellent condition. Stainless trim and pot metal insignia are in very good
condition with the windshield trim having some minor pitting. Rubber running
boards are in very good condition with no wear observed. The white convertible
top has no tears, rips or split seams, is fitted well and in excellent
condition. All glass is
correct for the vehicle having the VW “bug”
and displaying no cracks, chips or scratches. Windshield has no stone chips.
Summary/Comments
This example of a 1979 VW Cabriolet is
in excellent extremely low mileage condition with only two owners from new.
Mileage is only 3, 286 and inspection of the vehicle would agree with that. The
vehicle has never been in a collision, had work on the drivetrain or restored
in any way. I would rate this vehicle to be in number one minus condition (out
0f six) needing minor cleaning. (Condition code: #1 – Excellent, #2 –
Fine, #3 – Very Good, #4 – Good/Fair, #5 Poor but restorable, #6 – Parts vehicle)
After careful evaluation of this
vehicle, based on my expertise and experience (and after consulting Old Cars
Price Guide, NADA, The Production Figure Book for U.S. Cars, the Internet, reviewing the International Vehicle Appraisers Network database, etc., and
after consulting with other Professional Appraisers, museums, and automotive
experts, etc., when necessary, I appraise (estimate) this vehicle as having a
cash value of $32, 000.
I hereby state that I have no financial
interest, ownership, or employment in/with any firm engaged in the purchase, sale, insurance or transport of motorized vehicles or in any firm engaged in
the repair or restoration of motorized vehicles. I further state that I have
