Want some thing no one else has? Well here it is. ...1974 Euro model Dorper Camper
Original near mint condition. 1974 Canadian spec (Dorper) VW Camper. A factory ordered pre runner (off road) bus if you will. Check out the rare M Code options below. Delivered to Halifax, Canada. Only one owner since new. Stored inside barn since 1982. Documented 54k og miles. The van was parked in 1982 with 45, 400 miles. It was stored inside a barn from 1982 to 2012. In 2012 it was brought out of its long term hibernation. The fuel was drained prior to storage. When the fuel tank was pulled it was spotless clean (have pics). This has been in the same family since new. This van has been meticulously taken care of and garaged from 1974 till 1982 when it was parked, then stored from 1982 to 2012 in a barn. Very rare optioned bus. I believe this to be the lowest mile, most original Dorper camper in existence. The van was taken out of long term storage and gone over. The work included, new clutch, pressure plate, through out bearing, fuel filter and fuel lines, brakes, complete tune up and new Hancook 6 ply truck rated tires. The van runs and drives like a brand new van. The original elderly owner loved this van and always garaged it and took incredible care of the van up in till he was no longer able to drive in 1982. As you will see in the pictures the van is in near mint condition with the exception of a few scratches and dings. No rust, OG paint, rare color (Kansas Red-L30B). The entire bus is all original. ** Note look at the original door panels, no warping. The seat pads are still plush. Rare gas heater. Very rare factory dual carbs only seen on Euro model vans. The van was recently taken on a several thousand mile road trip by previous owner after it was pulled from its long hibernation. The van runs like a top and is ready to take any where in the country.
ENGINE- Recent compression check - 120 psi on all cylinders. New engine seal, battery, fuel and vac lines, clutch, pressure plate, through out bearing. Complete tune up. The motor runs like a watch. Very rare factory dual carb motor (only available on Euro models in 1974) with recessed crown pistons for low octane fuel. This gives the motor slightly lower compression thus runs cooler and is a near bullet proof engine. The transmission shifts crisp and precise.
INTERIOR- The interior is amazing. . The interior is completely original and still looks new still. The door panels have absolutely no warping and are like new do to its long term indoor storage. Dash has no cracks. Interior upholstery is all like new including the padding. I did replace padding on driver side seat with the correct coconut fiber pad. The seat upholstery is 100% original. Original 8 track and speaker. Original curtains. Floor boards are mint and paint looks new, not even surface rust. Full Z bed in back that folds down (no blind spots). The Dorper camper interior is very well thought out and was made for touring in Canada. The only flaw in the interior are a few holes in the front headliner. I decided not to replace as I wanted the bus as original as possible. There is a factory fridge that runs of propane, 12 volt and 110 (shore power). There is also a sink with holding tank that runs off a hand pump or shore water. The van comes with all its accessories including cutting board and table.
POP TOP- The canvas is a heavy duty vinyl that is in good condition. Fiberglass top is in excellent condition with the original finish.
PAINT & BODY- Original paint. The color is called Kansas Red (rare color). In the pictures the red appears to be bright, however in person the color is a light shade of red similar to ceiling wax red. This van has no rust do to it being stored inside since new. Paint was professionally detailed and polished to a beautiful factory shine. The body is arrow strait. Near mint say for a few scratches and dings. All original Dorper decals are on the van. I had bumpers sand blasted and powder coated and rims repainted. Both were repainted the factory colors. There is a nice fold down step for the cargo area that is not pictured. I removed the step to have it sand blasted and repainted and will be reinstalled after it is painted. The front windshield has been replaced as well as the rubber gasket. The window and door rubber on the rest of the bus is in good condition and there are no leaks. The factory jalousie style window works great.
OTHER- factory off road shocks, factory dual carbs, gas heater which appears to be in good working order but was unhooked for safety. The gas heater has been used very little. Aux battery set up is all there. Brand new correct 185 r 14 load rated 6 ply tires Hancook tires ($800). Rare m code options listed below. Complete factory tool kit and jack. The van also has its original mud flaps with British Colombia stickers still intact.
After much thought I have regrettably decided to sell my VW camper van. This is the nicest known low mile survivor Dorper camper in existence. The Dorper camper was not available in the US making it a rare find. Not many were made and or survived. This particular example was cherished by the original owner. I know the complete history as I bought it from the Original owners / family. The mileage is actually documented by the maintenance stickers up in till 1982 when it was parked (see picture). I took plenty of pictures so interested buyers can see the condition of this van. Truly a rare find and the only one you will most likely see at a car show. A rare opportunity to own a 1 of 1 factory optioned VW Bus. A factory pre runner if you will.
