Price: US $21,500.00
I recently purchased this van and have only literally driven it like 100 miles. (I live in Colorado and bought it in Yakima and drove it to Portland to store at a friends place until I could get a week off work to drive it to Colorado). It is in amazing condition, has had one other owner, has its original tent that has only been put up 3 times apparently (i haven't had time to open it up but it is supposed to be in near new condition) and original camping table and chairs. I replaced the tires with new ones as the others were really worn . (these new ones have a 70, 000 miles warranty). Apart from that I haven't touched it, or spent more than a weekend with it so far as I live in Colorado. Its in amazing condition. Right after I bought it I had a change in circumstances. I bought a house that doesn't have a garage and i really don't want to keep such a beautiful vehicle out on the street in the rain...and dont have the extra cash now I bought a house to pay for storage for it. I would prefer a local buyer in the Oregon area as I would like the buyer to view in person. .but I might ship. Would prefer you to contact me first before you bid so we can work out what would be involved with that. Below is the original blurb/write up from the seller. Like I said I haven't had it for more than a few weeks so I don't have much to say about it other than I am sad to sell it before I had a chance to have some adventures in it. Oh, and it does 65 very easily on the highway! I have been in westies before and they have run really awfully compared to how this one hums along! Theres definitely a little play in the steering wheel but nothing major. Pretty impressed. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will try and answer them to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure I am missing a bunch of key info here that you all might want to know…unfortunately I don't have any more photos for now as I am in CO and it is in Portland. .but any other question please feel free to call or text and ask me :) Melissa 720.982.6864 Thanks for looking!
FROM ORIGINAL OWNER: This is a unique opportunity to own a 1969 Volkswagen Westfalia with complete documented history in San Diego. California since new. down to theoriginal sales warranty from Herman Cook Volkswagen in Encinitas. California
History: The bus was bought by the mother of the man I acquired it from as a college gift to him in 1970 at Herman Cook Volkswagen in Encinitas.
California after it had been traded in by the original owner after just a few months with only a few thousand miles on it. This bus still retains all of it
original paperwork. includit1g original sales warranty at Herman Cook Volkswagen from April. 1969. and a very thick stack of all receipts for every
repair ever done to the vehicle. which was serviced at Volkswagen Dealerships in San Diego up until it's warranty ran out. From then on it was serviced
by Burri's Garage in San Diego. Very complete and incredible provenance including all original VW and Westfalia brochures. Even a very cool family
Christmas card from 1970 with a large lit1e drawing of the bus and very detailed story about how they looked for one. bought this bus and the trips they took
it on that year to Utah, the local California mountains and San Felipe, Mexico. This is a true survivor California VW Bus.
They would own it for the next 44 years until just earlier this year, as it had been unused for the past 5 years.
Body: This bus is very dry. Has solid original front floor pans and belly pans. Some rust repair was done underneath the battery at some point in its life.
not a replacement panel like we would do today but it is an inconspicuous and minor patch. Originally Pearl White, it was repainted by the previous owner,
it is now not too far off though has a more cream hue when compared to the original. Apprearancewise the paint has just been wet sanded and buffed out, as well as had some small scratches here and there touched up, and has a nice shine and extremely presentable – it isn’t perfect but in my opinion a solid 8/10.
Interior: This bus has all new interior – original style black basket weave front seat covers, all new grey vinyl rear seat and bed covers, including the extra Westfalia stool. The rear flooring is new vinyl, laid down over the original linoleum, and all the wood paneling was re-done in original Baltic Birch. Needless to say it feels like new inside, but still retains its old world charm. The cabinets and tables have their patina with new original style Westfalia handles installed to replace the brittle sun baked originals. Windows will crank out just as they should, pop-top canvas has no issues or rips and looks almost like new. One of the most astounding features on this bus is the unbelievable original condition of its Westfalia side tent. It has only been up 3 times in the last 40+ years that I know of – twice by the previous owners and once by me. Bus also has curtains, removable front windshield curtain and read mosquito new as well as period folding picnic table included.
Mechanicals: The bus starts, runs and drives tight and solid. The engine is a replacement block, updated with an alternator and the later style oil cooler. 1600 dual port, single carb. It runs extremely smooth and powerful with a positive exhaust note. Has the usual VW bus drop of oil after a drive, runs nice and cool doesn’t overheat, timing and points just set, valves adjusted and carb tuned up. The transmission is smooth and tight and shifts smoothly through all the gears, no noises and does not pop out of any. Steering is light and smooth and fluid just topped up, has a little free play in the middle that could be tightened but nothing excessive. The brakes stop the bus perfectly straight no pulling, rear cylinders were replaced and the drums cleaned up. Pedal sits high and seels great.
