1984 VW
Vanagon Westphalia 115, 000 miles
So I have
owned this Vanagon for a few years and bought it with the intent of tuning it
up and making it a reliable camper van for me and my family. The only problem
is we are so busy we never seem to have the time to use it, and I am sick of
just seeing it sit unused, registered and insured, in my driveway. It seems I
have too many toys that this is happening to these days. So up for sale it
goes. It was a running vehicle when I got it, but needed some TLC. Here is the
list of things that I have done to it in the Past 2 years:
Ø New Fuel tank and fuel pump
Ø Fuel filter upgrade kit from GoWesty, replaced some fuel lines as well
Ø New two Piece stainless steel coolant
lines
Ø New brakes – replaced master
cylinder, rebuilt front calipers, new rotors, replaced rear wheel cylinders, new
drums, new shoes and pads, replaced hard lines that were looking shabby
Ø Removed stock clock and replaced with
Tachometer from a 1985 vanagon
Ø New clutch and pressure plate, flushed transmission and refilled with synthetic fluid
Ø New Tires
Ø New Downpipes for exhaust
Ø Installed front seats out of an 85
Vanagon. More comfortable , full swivel, with the armrests
Ø Full tune up- cap, rotor, plugs, air
filter, etc..
Ø Installed Thule roof rack.
Ø Replaced sun roof/ vent top and seal
Ø Deleted fridge and made shelving.
(never thought I would use the fridge as a cooler seems to work better, so I
pulled it out and made shelves- I still have the fridge, and it may work)
Ø Added some LED interior lighting
Ø Disconnected propane bottle under van
and retrofitted stove to work on camp stove bottles. (with no fridge this
seemed like a more practical solution to the aging under-van gas bottle.
Everything is still there to switch it back if you wanted, but would recommend
getting a new tank under vehicle as it looks like it needs an upgrade) current
setup works great and is much more convenient.
Ø Stove, sink, and water pump all in
good working condition.
Somewhere
around 60, 000 miles it received a new Canadian motor. It runs great! It’s
a great little van and I will probably kick myself for selling it, (I know my
kids will kick me). But with the aging vehicles in my fleet, I need a better
daily driver, and this is not it. The big bonus on this vanagon is That It
comes with a ton of extra parts. Valuable spare parts. I had a 1985 vanagon as
a donor vehicle, and before it went to scrap I got everything I could off of
it.
Ø Spare parts include all replacement
glass in really good shape, spare ECU, hoses and lines, fridge, spare snow
tires on rims (look brand new), spare motor complete (I think one head gasket
is bad and it has sat for years), headlights, taillights, hatch cover, springs
and shocks, and much much more….
-The
underbody of this van is in great shape! There are a few spots of rust (mostly
very small stuff in pinch seams of body panels) and a little in the step ups
inside front doors. It is not rust free, but it is very minor considering its age. It has been garaged every winter
since I have had it. We want it to go to a good home! Come take a look!
