This auction is for a 1962 Volkswagen Double Cab. Please do not bid on this auction unless you are serious about purchasing a project vehicle to restore. I purchased this bus for my personal collection about ten years ago and its been in dry storage ever since.I purchased it from a gentleman in Delaware that had been storing the truck in a shipping container for some time but didn't have the resources to restore the vehicle. I personally own and restore vw's, see attached photos. I bought this particular vehicle because it was pretty complete and wasn't all rusted out as most of the busses on the east coast that I was looking at were 10 years ago. Meanwhile I have a 66 westy, 88 doka, 87 syncro, 76 westfalia all that have taken priority over this double cab and I can no longer store it in the garage. Time to let it go and let someone finish it up.
This bus is a project. Someone confident with a welder can easily do this bus. I have owned and seen much worse. I have done a lot of the dirty work already such as remove engine, cut out major rust, welded floor supports and new shift rod tunnel. I have over $2500 worth of klassic fab sheet metal for this vehicle (rockers, pillars, lower bulkhead, cab bulkhead, outriggers, jackpoints. With that being said there is repair still needed throughout and this bus is not a weekend project. Engine is a 1600 and did run when I tested it on my engine stand. Gates have been sandblasted and primed years ago. They are not perfect but not horrible. Hinges will need work. Gates would need lots of work to be perfect but could be done. Roof had a repair on top at one point and is not the best but looks ok from the ground. Nose is pretty straight with little to no filler that I can tell, lower section has two holes where someone may have had lights or something that have both been welded shut. Sides of truck are pretty straight throughout until you get down to the rocker areas. The rockers, and lower perimeter and floors have all been cut out to make way for new sheet metal. Doors are all in decent shape with a little welding needed at the bottoms. All glass is here and in great shape as well as both headlights and door handles. Included with the bus is four custom made dollies that can be mounted directly to the frame to move the car during restoration. I have the front two already installed, see pictures. Again, this bus is a restorable project for the right person and would be a great chance to get a double cab for a great price and restore it to your liking. No reserve.
