Price: US $4,900.00
For your consideration
is truly rare and sought after classic. One of European most successful models and a true icon that has
been recognized and respected around the world. Just as in 2015, 1985 WV Golf was the winner of Motor Trend Car
of the Year. There are very few left or available for sale. More
than likely, none as complete in such condition without any aftermarket parts
and/or alternations and modifications.
I am selling the car due to my move across the nation for a job.
Some
details: 1985 VW Golf Custom, 1.8L 8-Valve engine. 5 speed manual
transmission. Approximately 168, 000. Manufactured in Volkswagen
Westmoreland Assembly, 35 miles south of Pittsburgh in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. This is one of the early productions. Manufactured:
November 1984. Based on history check and my research the car had: 0
reported accidents, 3 reported owners and all of its life spent in Olympia, Washington.
The car
is solid with no rust.
Featured
car has original Cashmere White (LE9C) exterior paint and most rare brown interior
with tweeted seats that are in best condition you will find. Dash, instruments, door cards, roof liner, carpet are all original. All the locks function including gas cap. Every light lens (head, bumper
turn signals, side markers, tail) on this car are original HELLA (made in
Germany). Also, included: original Owner’s Manual and Bentley repair/maintenance manual. Original spare, tools pouch, jack, etc. Original stickers under the hood, door jambs, trunk and gas door.
This
Golf is absolute pleasure to drive. It is quick, sounds great, reliable and
responsive. Engine and transmission are strong.
I owned
this lovely car for about 4 years. I absolutely enjoy driving it. The car has never
left me stranded and I feel very safe and confident driving it. I would dare to drive it across the nation.
Car
sits on beautiful, rare vintage set of BBS Mahle (made in Germany) with
original caps. 13 inch
(standard size for 1985 Golf). Set of 4 tires have under 1, 000 miles on
them.
Included
with the car, basically impossible to find THULE 305 roof rack with locks and
key. As a bonus, I am also including all the spare parts I have collected
over the years: Alternator, set of door handles with keys, windshield
washer reservoir, wipers, rain gutters, seals, gaskets, bulbs, trim, sway bar, left/right steering tie rods, timing belt, valve cover gasket, etc.
(hundreds of dollars worth).
99% of this
car functions properly. Some of the things that do not function, but are easily
fixable. High
beam light (incorrect connection when grill was upgraded). Fuel gage
(disconnected floater in the gas tank). Odometer (most of the time works;
however, occasionally gets stuck). Stereo (Original, turns on but there are no
speakers or wiring in the car, so I am not sure. I never bothered to look into it, I enjoy the
sound of engine and exhaust. Heat works
great - AC is cool, but not cold. This is all I encountered and can think of.
Parts
that are not original to the car: Front grill was upgraded to European spec quad
lights. Front
bumper and Left side fender were replaced with identical white fender from a
different Golf.
List
of maintenance, repairs, added parts I have done to the car (I will include
some receipts):
GTI Grill GTI Front bumper with Hella turn signals Right fender Bulbs Hella side markers Starter Alternator BBS Mahle rims and center caps New tires 4 wheel flares Spark plugs Spark plug wires Distributor rotor and cap New oil pan and gasket Oil drain plug New Battery Bosch Oil filter Mann Air filter THULE 305 roof rack Front control arms with bushings Ball joints Front brakes Rubber exhaust hangers Wiper blade rubber Wheel lug bolts Brake pedal pad Front Left/Right CV Axles Wheel bearings AC compressor belt Alternator belt Driver window regulator 2 window cranks 2 interior door handles Accordion shifter boot Fluids (Oil, Coolant, Windshield washer) Bosch fuel filter Vacuum hoses Miscellaneous interior trim pieces Windshield water hoses
Lastly, when I
purchased the car, it came with a bill of sale and no title. I contacted DMV in Washington state and they
sent me a letter stating that the title has been destroyed, since required
parts were no longer manufactured, insurance had to write it off as totaled. After, I replaced all the damaged parts, the
car went through safety inspection by Florida DVM and Florida Department of
Highway Safety and the car was issued rebuilt title. See last photo (picture of the damage).
I have dozens of detailed pictures. Please contact me with any questions or requests for additional photos before bidding.
Vehicle is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction
early if necessary. I welcome inspections and test drives.
