Price: US $5,000.00
Car has greasecar system installed, runs on either diesel or wvo, installed by Greasecar's owner Justin Carvin when car first purchased in 2008.
The original auto transmission overheated due to TCM getting wet under carpet. Mike McCann installed a 5speed standard transmission which includes trans, new single mass clutch/flywheel, tuning, pedals, shifter, wiring, labor, etc.. Check Mike's references on TDIClub.com.
Timing belt serviced 5/2015 at 159k miles. Geared Balance Shaft Assembly Installed. 4 Hancook tires with about 30% tread remaining. No rust except for small trace on inside trunk lid: rust on fender fixed/repainted at autobody 10/2013. Front pads, calipers and rotors replaced 8/2014, and now have 6000 miles on them. Front shocks replaced. Oil changed at 5000m intervals.
Newer engine with 60, 000 miles was swapped in at 135, 000 miles by Mike McCann.
Also features a Westfalia euro-style hitch installed.
The car comes with original 3 keys and original owners manual.
Fuel Economy? Difficult to precisely measure due to hybrid fuel system both diesel and vegoil. Typical highway driving fuel consumption is about 35mpg, and about 25mpg when towing a 2500 lb trailer.
Any Accidents? A lady with no brakes rear-ended us while stopped at a traffic light. The bumper was professionally repainted but cracks have caused some of the paint to peel on the rear bumper after 2 years. A well-placed bumper sticker would cover most of the damage. A small sticker on the rear bumper visible in the rear view photo covers a small cut in the bumper. Also I was in a slow-motion winter multi-car mishap where the fellow behind me gently hit my car, causing me to hit the pickup truck (he stopped fast on very large aggressive snow tires that caused those behind him to plow into him) in front of me on a very slick road surface. His trailer hitch punched a whole in the plastic grill cover, which has been replaced as snap-in part and is good as new.
Why am I selling? My wife is not able to drive a standard transmission. After dampness in the under-carpet TCM (transmission control module) caused the auto transmission fluid to overheat and break through the torque converter seal, I determined that a manual transmission would be the most permanent and reliable repair. Auto transmissions from VW for these cars are very costly to install and come with a very poor warrantee. I could not bear to see this car junked, so I had Mike McCann do the 5-speed manual swap conversion and put the car on the market.
