You're looking at my father's 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit convertible, which he bought sixteen years ago and has lovingly cared for, and stored indoors, ever since. He's given up driving and has asked me to help him sell it on eBay.
The car is almost completely original, with the only real changes from original being the cassette player (remember, he DID buy it sixteen years ago; tape decks were still the business back then) and the 14 wheels from a later-model Jetta, which he switched to since finding tires for the original 13 wheels was getting tricky. All four windows crank up and down fine, and the top operates exactly as it should. The 1.7L four is mated to its original five-speed manual transmission.
In his time with the car, he's cleaned, repaired, replaced, and adjusted nearly everything on it. The CIS fuel injection system works perfectly, as do the new tires, struts, shocks, battery, brakes, suspension bushings, halfshafts, fuel pump, injectors warm-up regulator, gaskets... If you can think of it, and it's on a Mk1 Volkswagen, it's likely been replaced or gingerly brushed clean and adjusted. It was driven from his home in Milwaukee to mine in Seattle without missing a beat. Included with the sale is folder containing the last sixteen years of maintenance and repairs, as well as several large boxes of OEM and new replacement parts that he kept just in case.
The negatives that I see are that the driver's bolster shows signs of wear, the A/C finally stopped working last year (it had retained a full charge of R-12 from the time he bought it until then), and the original hood has been replaced with a new aftermarket item because his Coleman 18' fiberglass canoe fell from the rafters of the garage onto the original hood at one point during his ownership.
