I am the second owner of a 1979 Volvo 242GT. I have owned the car since 1996. My family friend is the first owner and he bought the car brand new in 1980 from the Volvo in Roanoke, VA. The car runs but it desperately needs body work. All quarters and rockers panels plus under the license plate needs replaced.
The car has 214K miles but the odometer did stop recently, and since it is not my primary car it does not have much more than what is on the odometer. So I just drive around town, no highways.
The car does run, it has the original motor and no signs of any problems with it. The OD does not engage but the 4 speed transmission is fine. I replaced the clutch around 2001 and has been strong since then. I have all of the service records for this car but to be honest the car has been neglected in the recent years and that's why I am selling it with hopes for a good home. It remains parked on an asphalt street, not covered. All seats are in good order but the drivers seat needs some attention. I have a second set of 242 GT seat covers with the orange stripe too. The seat cushions and springs are fine. All lights work. The suspension and brakes need replaced and likely anything that is made of rubber/bushings underneath the car. It has the original glass all around but I think the first owner replaced the windshield before I bought it from him. The GT wheels are gone but I have a set of Virgos on it, plus one spare set. The A/C has a leak and still runs on the old R12, so it needs converted. Power steering, washer fluid, 4 speed gears & reverse, heater, blinkers, window cranks, locks, seat belts, horn, all work. I tried my best to keep it original over the years.
Never been in an accident!!!
