These cars have a big cult following. There are lots of youtube videos on these cars, you will be surprised how quick these cars are and for a long time were among the fastest cars of their time. I’ve owned a s60r and this car is by far a quicker more enjoyable to drive. The Volvo t-5r and the 850r where co-developed with Volvo in a partnership with Porsche (yes that Porsche) who helped develop the motor and contributed to the interior of the car. The car is very fast (be careful of young drivers) and is electronically limited to a top speed of 155mph or ~250km/hr due to the European regulations which also governed the development of the car
The car is a two owner car (we are the second owners) and it’s been a good family car.
The car is very mechanically sound and we have kept up to date on the service of the car. We put a lot of work into the car when we first got it and have continued to take care of it. It’s had full synthetic oil changes ( the oil will be freshly changed for new buyer as well). It has a new battery, new brakes all around including new rear calipers, tires are brand new BF Goodrich and have less than 100 miles on them total. Radiator, air filter, timing belt, new plugs, oil seals which have all been changed/updated/repaired in the last 12 months
Car currently has 134, 9XX on it, call it 135, 000 miles and runs like a top, I have no hesitation to drive it anywhere and we haul the kids and groceries in it without a problem. The car is very strong mechanically. It is FWD so it’s very reliable and one doesn’t have to worry about drive axels on the awd versions of the v70s
The car is over 10yrs old so although mechanically it is very sound cosmetically is has some bumps. The car is what I would call a 20footer which is it looks better at 20 feet and in the pictures than is likely reality. I have included a youtube video at the bottom for you to see for yourself and hear the car run. It’s important to me that the buyer know I’m not representing this as a cosmetically perfect 850r, I would certainly stand behind the mechanical of the car but would call the car condition as overall good. It has three major dings in the outside (one in the hood, one large dent on the driver side door, and near the bottom of the rear passenger side door) I want to make sure any potential buyer is aware of these cosmetic issues, I don’t want to advertise the car as anything it isn’t. These cosmetic dings are a consequence of a 10-15yr car, they certainly don’t affect the operation of the car and they don’t bother me that much but in the interest of full disclosure they there are J
The interior alcantara seats are in great condition but have has some chafing on the leather after use of getting in and out which is pretty normal, NO RIPS AT ALL, the backseat is in very good condition, there is also some wear on the carpet under the floor mats, particularly on the driver side
The headliner is in very good condition, no sagging or anything and sunroof works and is very tight. The remote lock doesn’t work, not sure why, changes the batteries but still can’t get it to work, I lock it with the key itself, but this would be a great candidate for a remote start/lock to it.
I do have a euro spec roof rack that I will include with the car, the top strips on the roof (easy found on ebay or from IPD or erievolvo) are starting to flake and peel in some spots, these are the plastic roof runners on the roof
The wheels are the original 17” wheels (which must have been massive back in 1996) and which I’m told are getting harder and harder to get. They have some curb rash on them but no dents or dings or anything that would be considered major.
Buying a car on ebay is always a nervous issues so any buyer can contact me and I’m happy to talk to them personally about it. I would do payment (preferably by a wire transfer) but would consider paypal if the buyer would be willing to cover the service fees associated with it. Shipping is not included but I would be happy to help, there a many good companies out there that could ship this car for 600-1500 depending on where it needs to go. I’m not sure about shipping to Canada but we can chat.
I’ve tried to represent this car as accurately and honestly as possible, the car is currently at my garage for an oil change and an overall check through and I’m happy to talk to any prospective buyer about it. I searched for this car as an alternative to the dreaded minivan and something cool to haul the kids in but we’ve outgrown it a but now and would prefer the money and to sell it but it’s a very rare car

Volvo 850R
Because the T-5R was a Limited Edition there should be no successor for the car. But because the T-5R was very successful in its sales and image Volvo decided to develop a new fast Volvo 850 which should replace the 850 T-5R. The new car should be based on the T-5R but with some improvements. The new car was called: Volvo 850R.
The colors Cream Yellow was discontinued on the 850R from the T-5, but some new colors were added: Turquoise, White, Brilliant Red and Gun Metal Grey. The car was also available in black. For some markets the Volvo 850R was also available in Dark Olive Pearl (green). The 850R also has new wheels, which are much stronger than the Titans. The new Volan wheels are also 7x 17-inch and have 7 spokes.

The interior is also changed: the new designed seats are now equipped with alcantara and leather on the sides (instead of the opposite, like the T-5R had) and the car was now also available with other interior colors: black and gray (with Dark Walnut wooden trim) or light brown (with Light Birch wooden trim).
But that’s not all: the 2.3-litre 5-cylinder engine has been equipped with a larger turbo (except the cars with automatic gearbox), new manifold, new intercooler and a more sophisticated fuel pressure sensor (to obtain an even more precise air/fuel mixture), to increase power by 10bhp to 250bhp at 5400rpm. Torque increased from 300nm to 350nm (258lb ft). The name of the engine with these changes was renamed to B5234T4. The new M59 gearbox was now fitted into the manual transmission (MT) equipped cars for most markets (other markets kept the M56H gearbox and didn’t have the larger turbo). The 850Rs with an automatic transmission (AT) didn’t have the bigger turbocharger and still had 240bhp. The 850R MT acceleration from 0-100kmh (0-62mph) takes now 6.7 seconds (the AT needs 7.5 seconds for that, 7.6 seconds in case of an Estate). The topspeed is (again) limited to 249km/h (155mph) due European regulations. Just like the T-5R some markets got the 850R with a 2.0-litre engine
Other improvements were made at the suspension: thinner anti-rollbars (but some T-5R enthousiasts says the handling is much better on the T-5R) and that modification allowed to have stiffer damper settings. The MT 850R also has a viscous coupling and a Torsen differential (in case of the M59 gearbox).
The equipment of the 850R is the same as the 850 T-5R but with some changes:
a 6-CD changer is now standard Volan-wheels instead of Titan passenger airbag is now an option (standard for some markets) 16-inch wheel option not longer available rear spoiler also standard on the Estate leather gear knob (instead of wooden trim) Production of the Volvo 850R ended in 1997 when the Volvo S70 and V70 were introduced.
