For sale is a two owner, bone stock, genuine 1996 Volvo 850R wagon (not a clone). If you are a Volvo fan you know how rare these cars are and how even rarer they appear in the market (one of three I could find nationwide when I bought this one in December 2012). If you are not aware, production of the 850R ran between 1996-1997 (the final years of the 850) and various Volvo sources estimate between 5000-7000 of all 850R variants were produced and sold worldwide. Throw in 20 years' worth of attrition and the number gets even smaller.
This specimen has been professionally maintained, adult driven and never abused. She has good brakes, new tires, new transaxle fluid, regular oil changes/alignments and frequent polishings. The timing belt was replaced at 162K miles, the radiator in March 2010, the turbo gasket seal in June 2010, ABS module in June 2013, the sway bar end link bushings in December 2012 and the liftgate struts in August 2013. Aside from the normal wear on the driver's seat, the interior is in excellent shape (no kids, no pets, non-smoker). The car has a trailer hitch and removable ball connection. Heck, I'll even throw in a bike rack (not pictured). She has approximately 180k miles (the odometer quit working at 164K), yet passes the emissions test with no problems. My understanding is any Volvo dealer service department can read the mileage electronically through the OBD II system.
As you would expect, any 20 year old car will show some age and this grand lady is no different. The front spoiler has a crack, the rear bumper cover has scuffs/scratches, the headliner is drooping, missing paint on the driver's side passenger door, small dent on the driver's door, a cut on the back of the driver's seat and wheel curb rash. I disclose this information because I do not want to misrepresent the description and appear disingenuous should prospective buyers examine the vehicle. Golden rule here, folks.
These cars are coveted for their rarity, performance and simplicity, yet are easy to maintain with very reasonably priced/accessible parts with a very high commonality percentage with the non-R models. If you can find another 850R in better shape (or any another 850R, period) I suggest you buy it.
The clean title is free of liens/encumbrances and is in my possession.
