This was their DELUXE car offering, and their only 6 cylinder model, which cost over $10, 000 new in 1975. To put that in perspective, you could buy a decent house here in Southern CA back then for just over double that amount. It was purchased by my wife brand new, and only driven on occasion, as they had other cars. When we were married in 1979 and moved away, it was left behind in her mother's garage, WHERE IT REMAINS TO THIS DAY. It has always been housed in the same garage since the day it was purchased. It now has only 17, 150 miles on it from new, and it looks and even still smells as new. All 5 tires are still the factory original Michelins! Since it has been sitting without being used at all since the mid-1980's, it has had some wake up work done to it recently. All the rubber belts and hoses have been changed, although they did not visibly look like they needed to be. It got all new master and wheel cylinders, plus new brake hoses, and the system was then flushed out and filled with Silicone brake fluid. The fuel system was completely renewed, as the gas had gone bad. The tank was removed and boiled out, it got a new Bosch fuel pump, a new fuel filter, all new fuel injectors, and all new rubber fuel hoses. It got the water system flushed out and a new waterpump installed. Most of the electronic fuel system sensors were replaced. It now starts, runs and drives like new. We have all the original literature that came with the car, including the extended warranty, which its now is slightly overdue for its 15, 000 mile service according to these documents. It still has all its original gorgeous Burgundy factory paint. On the interior, the 2 front seats were rebuilt, as the foam had disintegrated over time. For some odd reason, this did not happen to the rear seat. The factory Gold velour fabric was matched exactly, and unless someone points it out, the difference between the front and rear seats is unnoticeable. Shortly after the car was purchased, my brother-in-law had a stereo system installed as a surprise gift. It has since been removed and the radio has been returned to stock. There are still the extra speaker grilles left, as removing them would leave holes in the front door panels. Those are the only non-stock features. We have picked up some extra parts for it over the years, as well as some factory service books, and those will go with it. Undoubtedly the nicest example of a Volvo 164 on the planet, and offered at a very reasonable reserve, less than it cost new, and that's NOT figuring in for monetary inflation!
