If you have been watching the car collector market (as we
always do) for the last three years you begin to realize that the hottest
commodities in the collector car market are foreign sports cars. We have been watching the XKE’s, Gullwings
and AC Bristols prices just sky rocket through the ceiling. One of the latest cars to be catching fire in
that regard are the Volvo P1800s. These
cars are just being discovered and the prices are starting to seriously
climb.
These Volvos are of a fantastic design and were manufactured
by Volvo when it was known for making cars that could go hundreds and hundreds
of thousands of miles in a design package that really looks like it was
designed for a Ferrari. The real problem
with these cars is that 98% were used as most Volvos were at the time; they
were run until the wheels fell off. While these cars are beautiful it is extremely hard to find a good, straight original car that has not been beat up or taken apart, restored and
put back together. Remember when a car is
put back together as a restored car it is never quite the quality that it was
when it was originally manufactured.
The car that you see in this ad in the opinion of
MissChiTown is the best of the best and would stand out at any Volvo car
show. The colors are in our opinion the
best color scheme for these cars. We
believe that it is the best year for all the right items on the car and we
couldn’t recommend it higher.
The following is a description of the
car in the sellers own words.
This “Baby Ferrari” as the private seller refers to it, is
just the most fun to drive. Not only
does it have a beautiful Italian inspired design but this little car really
kicks it when you shift through the four speeds. The manual transmission with overdrive gives
great acceleration off the line and low RPM at cruising speeds of 75 mph makes
it a car that is so much fun to drive you will think you are a race car
driver. At least this is what the lady
that owns this car tells us.
This is a 1972 Volvo 2-door 1800 series “E”. (We personally think this is the most
desirable year). It is a USA left hand
drive model according to the vin tag. The car was repainted red at some point and the interior is believed to
be original. The bucket seats are in
good shape and very presentable for an original interior.
When the lady purchased this car she tells us she took it
into her mechanic and at the end of the day asked what the car needed. For the first time ever of having a ‘new’
collector car inspected, her mechanic said this car needed absolutely
nothing! If you have bought collector
cars in the past you probably know that when you get the car home there are
little things you want to do to the car but the previous owner kept this 1972
Volvo so well maintained it needed nothing. It is one of the most dependable collector
cars this lady has ever owned, she tells us she gets in and starts it up and
drives away and always has a fun drive.
The private seller of this car said that if it were not for
losing garage space she would never think of selling this car.
If you are a Volvo 1800 series aficionado or always just
wanted one it really pays to buy the best when they are not super crazy
expensive. We put this car in that
category because it just has so many things going for it. Just judge the car from the pictures and we
think that you will agree that you would be hard pressed to find a better one anywhere
in the world.
