This 1961 Willys L6-226 Pickup has lived its entire life in Northern California and just finished a restoration started in 2013.
The truck has had every system gone through, after being disassembled to a bare frame, blasted, and its chassis either powder coated or painted with Eastwood chassis black. Here are the details:
-Frame: free of bends, cracks, and rot, as it lead a life of mild use in a dry climate, and sits on 4 new Willys America/ Betts Spring, San Leandro, Ca. made leaf springs.
-Brake system: has all new pads, springs, fully replaced brake lines, both rubber and steel, and new cylinders.
-Tires: original Jeep 16-inch truck rims that have been powder coated in factory Glacier White, and wrapped with brand new 750-16 Hercules HDT biased ply traction tires. The spare is used, but its the same brand and tread.
-Fuel tank: has been cleaned and coated, and all new fuel lines were installed. The fuel pump and single barrel Carter carburetor were completely disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt.
-Drive train: has been gone through as well, adding new gaskets and bearings where required. Even the pedal arms were re-bushed with brass inserts, so the pedals have no side-to-side play and feel solid as new.
-Gears: This jeep has no odd gear noise, and it goes through the gears without a hitch, new clutch, surfaced pressure plate.
-Electric system: It has a new factory correct wiring harness, rebuilt generator, and matched voltage regulator. 12 volt factory. I wasn't able to find a set of original tail lights, it needs rear tail lights installed, possibly reproduction or aftermarket.
-Engine: The flathead Super Hurricane 226 engine has been gone through, machined and reassembled. The exhaust is new with a Smitty's glass pack that gives an aggressive, but not annoyingly loud note. The engine currently has a higher RPM stutter, which I suspect is distributer advance related, but it still runs well, and it idles beautifully.
-Exterior: the body was painted in 2014 in factory Willys Spruce Tip Green/ Glacier White two tone, its original colors. I removed all filler that was present, preferring the small imperfections get painted as such, not sweating the small stuff. The cab has small dings and dents, and a few holes where things were once mounted, but nothing that distracts from the vehicle's lines. The stainless trim is complete, but the passenger side door trim is rough, and could be swapped for a nicer piece. The cast elbows for the hockey style trim were re-chromed, and look perfect, free of pits or imperfection. The cab floors were replaced completely. The doors need the windows and wind wings, door latches to be assembled, and all parts for that are included. The front and rear glass have been installed with new gaskets. Doors are mounted but need new glass and weather stripping installed.
-Interior: The cab interior and accessories are what need assembly. The original bench seat is serviceable, and the original springs and padding are present, but they should be recovered. The truck has no floor mat or door inserts, I hadn't decided on seat material yet. I have a lead on factory Maverick material, which although period and brand correct, would not have been available on a truck. I can put you in touch with that shop should you be interested in going down that path with this truck.
-Truck bed: the bed of the truck being single wall, and original, exhibits the normal minor dings and dents expected of its age. The floor is not rotted out, nor are the stake pockets.
This is a great truck with all the heavy lifting restoration work done. It is ready to be trimmed out and personalized with minor bolt on cab re-assembly work, and minor tuning expected to come with a body off restoration, adjusting the brakes after a few hundred miles, first oil change after break in, etc... Nothing major, and certainly no rusted or broken bolts, rust, or searching for missing parts. The only reason I am selling, is because I inherited a family Jeep, and I have only so much space and time. I had intended to keep this truck, and I built it for myself so no expenses were spared. I will be sad to see it go.
