This is a VERY RARE vehicle with only 154 panels being made then. This is a project vehicle! Please take the time to look over the photo's in the attached photobucket link below and ask questions BEFORE YOU BID!!!
Here's the scoop: This rare vintage ride has the iconic front profile that all Jeep Willys owners love. The fact that it's a true panel (no windows in the side of the rear body) makes it super cool. This vehicle hasn't been 'dolled' up to look like it's got patina (we call that Fo-Tina), this is the real deal. From the shag-o-licious interior to the CB radio and flat face tach, this cool ride ran the roads just like you see it. When I got it there was a 2004 car show sticker on the windshield, so I know it was on the road then at least. From the looks of the shag and the Winger tape in the cassette player, I'm betting it was somebody's daily driver in the 1980's and 1990's.
Here's what I know about it:
All I have done to the Willys since I've owned it is replace the brake master cylinder, change the oil & filter, drained & refilled the gas tank, put a fuel filter on it and put a kit in the carburetor. The engine starts right up and seems to run good. The transmission shifts through all the gears with no apparent issues. The brakes need work! I bled the rear brakes but the front wouldn't bleed. I bought two new wheel cylinder rebuild kits for the front but have not installed them, they come with it when you buy it. That being said, it will slow you down and stop you eventually but I wouldn't head off into town with it. It's got a 1971 model 302 2V engine with C4 automatic transmission. It also has a Ford 8, open (non posi) rear end. The original speedometer works as does the vintage flat fact tachometer. It currently has a set of 14 black steel wheels from a 1971 Mustang on it. I've moved it around the yard several times and driven it the the end of the street and back once (about 300') but that's the extent of driving I have done in it. I'm calling it a yard driver, which means you can start it up and move it around and probably drive it up on a trailer.
As you can see from the pictures the entire inside is covered in shag carpet. The door windows roll up and down. Both wing windows are rough around the edges but there are two nice ones in the back that come with it. The two back doors are both missing glass, but being flat glass it won't be hard or expensive to have some cut. The front bumper isn't only super rare but in great condition. The hard to find 3 piece rear bumper is also with the vehicle (laying inside the panel area).
As for the body, the front clip looks really good! The front doors have had some repair work at the bottom of both of them. I'm not sure of type or extent of the repair work since I haven't stripped it down. The front floor pans have various rust holes as expected with these Willys models. The panel body has had a little exterior body work. Once again, I don't know the extent or type of repair that's under the primer. For the most part the panel body just has primer spots all over it. It looks like it's been beat with an ugly stick, but it's not all rusted out. The worst visible area on the panel body is the corner around the gas fill cap. Even then, nothing I see on this cool old classic looks like difficult metal work. The main floor of the panel body is in very good shape (looking up from the bottom). Both rear panel floor corners are rusted out, in a car we call that a 'trunk drop off' area.
The front suspension is all original Willys, but as mentioned previously the rear is 8 ford. Both front and rear lug patterns are 5 x 4 1/2. It does not have power steering or power brakes. The original Willys frame looks fantastic front to back.
My plan was to simply lift this super cool, super rare body off it's chassis and set it back down on a 4x4 Ford Ranger chassis. I had planned to do the metal work on it and put it in satin black paint. This would give me the best of both worlds, an iconic look with all the modern conveniences we have in today's cars. However, due to having so many other projects I've decided to pass this one along to the next person. It's a great canidate to restore to it's original, rare luster OR make one awesome Rat Rod / Restomod out of.
Do not be mistaken, this is still a big project. Although it runs and moves, I'm not calling this a daily driver! If you aren't experienced with vintage vehicles then this probably isn't the project for you to tackle alone. I don't want somebody buying this then claiming I mislead them or anything. I own a restoration shop so I do work like this every day and this project looks easy in my eyes. However, to a beginner I might now look as easy.
I have this vehicled listed locally as well so I reserve the right to end this auction for a local cash sale. If I have bids on this auction I will not end it for a local sale, I will let the auction run is full time. I'm also going to offer a buy it now option, but as you know that goes away as soon as somebody places a bid (without selecting buy it now). I have a clear and open Tennessee title in hand. I will provide that along with a bill of sale to the winning bidder. I requre a $500 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of auctions end! I've had too many non paying bidders that think it's fun to waste other peoples time. I have NO tolerance for that and will quickly leave swift and harsh feedback in such situations. I requre that remaining amount be paid within 7 days, in person when the vehicle is picked up. If the buyer isn't coming to see the Willys in person and is having it transported, they I require the balance paid in full at least 3 days BEFORE it is transported. I will happily work with the transport company to arrage and load the Willys with them. To make sure I'm clear, a $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auctions end. The balance of the purchase price is due within 7 days of auctions end.
NOTE: I will be out of town November 4-8 and WILL NOT be available to assist in the pickup or loading during that time.
Communication is key with all business transactions. Feel free to ask questions. That doesn't mean that I want to hear your opinions or that you share your Willys knowledge with me, but if you have question that isn't answered but my description or the pictures in the photobucket then by all means ASK BEFORE YOU BID.
Be sure to look at my other auctions, I'm selling some vintage muscle car parts. You should mark me as a favorite seller and follow my auctions because I'm also going to be listing a 1968 GTX and a couple vintage Dodge Challengers in the near future, as well as a crazy rare assortment of parts.
As you can see from my feedback, I don't play games! I call it like I see it and treat customers like I want to be treated. I don't have the time or patience to deal with time wasters, tire kickers or bidders that don't pay. That being said, if you cannot afford this car don't bid on it! I will not arrange shipping for this vehicle, that will be the responsibility of the buyer. If the buyer happens to be in a path that I travel on a normal basis (between Tennessee & Florida) I would consider delivery for a fee ONLY AFTER the buyer pays for the car in full, in person.
I'm not interested in trade offers so please don't waste either of our time with one. Cash is KING!
Once again, review ALL of the pictures in this link here
BEFORE asking questions. Bid with confidence and bid to win!
