1940 DeSoto Sportsman Sedan
Pre-War / Mid-Year
This Pre-War 1940 DeSoto Sportsman runs and drives well and
appears to be very original. It is our understanding that it is a low mileage
car that had only been driven sparingly for many years prior to being stored
for a while before being purchased in 2006 for the huge Goat Hill Automobile Collection in Southern California.
At mid-year (1940) DeSoto came out with the Sportsman model
which was a fancier four-door sedan featuring two-tone paint, two-tone
interiors, chrome trim on door panels, a color steering wheel, two-tone wood
grain on the instrument panel, and additional exterior chrome trim including
windshield divider bar, chrome strips on the hood nose, and chrome strips along the fenders.
This car is equipped with a straight six engine, 3-speed
column shift transmission with overdrive, running boards, exterior sun visor, dual fog lights, front bumper/grill guards, dual exterior
mirrors, heater, radio, whitewall tires and center caps with chrome outer rims
on the wheels... The car appears to have been repainted several years ago and
still looks good as does most of the chrome.
All pictures were just taken for the eBay listing. The car's
exterior and interior do show some aging and wear as you would expect from an
original 75 year old car. Please see the pictures in the listing.

“This is a nice and fairly original DeSoto Sportsman that has been part of the huge Goat Hill Automobile Collection in Southern California since 2006. All pictures were just taken for the eBay listing and the car does look and show like the photos. The car runs and drives well and it was painted several years ago. The gauges appear to work fine except the fuel gauge and radio don’t seem to work. The paint, chrome and interior all look good but do show some aging/wear and the rear seat on the right side does have some staining/discoloration. The right rear fender is scuffed right above the wheel well. The chassis is quite nice (see pics in listing). However, below the spare tire there is a separate pocket to hold the spare and it drops down below the trunk pan and frame so as the lowest point it can collect water and rust over time which this did. The car is now over 75 years old so we are selling it as is.” |
