Description:

I have been building what I think is the coolest MG Midget ever. In the last couple years I have installed a GM 3.4 V6 crate motor backed by an S-10 T5. My vision was to create a clean bodied Midget that is hiding the GM power plant but my priorities and pocket book have shifted (pun intended).
Here's what I have done:-Frame modifications necessary to install and service the 3.4L V6 and 5 speed. If you are familiar with stock Midgets, you know the only way to remove the transmission is to bring it out of the engine compartment with the motor. Well here I have fabricated a new transmission cross member with a removable transmission mount so you will be able to drop the transmission out from the bottom of the car. -Fabricated engine and transmission mounts and set up proper pinion angle. I placed the engine pretty far back in the engine compartment for maximum hood clearance and it also helps weight distribution. The carb and air cleaner stick out of the hood by about 2 and my plan was to run an AC Cobra inspired hood scoop. -Notice I welded up all the original body seems for a clean smooth look. The body is 90% done and is ready for one last round of block sanding and Urethane primer. The hood was modified when I bought the car and I do not care for the look of it. I was going to replace the hood with a stock one and top it off with an AC Cobra scoop. I did the body work, painted and polished the deck lid a GM color named Lunar Quartz which is fantastic.
Here's a list of all the new parts:-GM crate engine $1991.68-Rebuilt T5 transmission from BMC Automobiles which includes clutch, flywheel, hydraulic throw out bearing and rebuilt trans $1700-Edelbrock 3.4 intake $368-Edelbrock cam and lifter kit $150-Holley Reman 390cfm carb $350-Remy Alternator $80-Reverse style water pump $49.30-Mini Starter $122.65-Accel Plug wires $56-Mallory Distributor $225-New custom built driveshaft $250-Roll bar $500-New windshield (not installed) $170 -New headers $350 -New aluminum radiator $125
Current Status of the car:It does not run as the engine and transmission are in for fit. The next step would be to fabricate the transmission tunnel then pull engine and trans for final welding and engine compartment refinishing. While the engine is out, it needs the clutch and flywheel installed, intake torqued and sealed and water pump final installed. The car does have a nice aftermarket wiring kit installed that I was going to use and is adequate for the engine and Moon gauges. The tires are new as of 4 years ago too. I could go on and on about it but if you are interested please call me and I will be happy to discuss the project and answer questions. If you have some time and skill, this would be an absolutely fun and unique car to complete. thanks 913-952-6200
