In 1971 there were only 353 Spoilers built. That number includes 351 and 429 cars. There were 70 competition blue cars, 54 non-ramair 429 cobra jet cars, and 29 cars with automatics. This is a very rare, low production, highly sought after, project car. Sure to be the only one at your local car show.
I was able to verify matching VIN on the dash, on the original door tag, on the engine block and on the inner fender. I also put a battery in the car and was able to work the power windows up and down in the doors. The back windows moved slightly but did not go down. The interior lights work in the roof and in the console. The buzzer warning the key is in the ignition works and the radio works although there is no antenna hooked up.
The story I got with this car is that the previous owner drove it into a garage over 20 years ago. He removed the hood, fenders, grill and bumper. Pulled the engine with the intention of restoring the car. That's how the car sat for over twenty years. The car was purchased by a chevy guy. Luckily he is also an automobile enthusiast and realized the value in keeping the car complete. He loosely re-installed the engine and hung the sheet metal for ease in transportation. There are a few pars missing like the crank damper, fuel pump, PS bracket, radiator, fan blade. Maybe more but thats the major parts. It appears the engine was not taken apart.
The odometer reads 38, 000 miles. There is no documentation to support if that is actual or not. However an argument could be made to support it. There is very little wear on the brake or gas pedal, in fact, there is very little wear on the interior. The upper and lower ball joints are still riveted. The factory twisted wire is still in the castle nuts on the spindle, it still has the original fuel line to the original carb. Original vacuum lines, etc.
The overall condition of the car is pretty good. The interior is solid. The seats are near perfect, the console is nice. I found three flaws in the interior. The dash is cracked in the usual spot at the transition in the center of the pad, the drivers side door panel has an open area where your elbow rests, and there is a 4 inch cut in the headliner above the seat belt hook. It is a clean slice that should be easily repaired.
The car is mostly original paint. The drivers side quarter panel was replaced early in the cars life. It was replaced with a full quarter panel and painted in lacquer. You can see the blend in the roof. I assume there was an issue with the seam that someone worked on and applied the red primer as seen in the pics. There is rust that you can check out in the pictures. The car was bumped in the left front which damaged the hood and headlight bucket. A good replacement hood goes with the car.
The engine is numbers matching and appears mostly complete. It has the original carb with tag, coil with tag, exhaust manifolds, oil pan, dip stick, heads, valve covers. The parts missing include the PS bracket, crank damper, radiator, fan blade. The crank does turn. I ran a scope through the drain plug and confirmed the block has 4 bolt mains.
The transmission appears to be original to the car. The rear was removed at some point. I've installed a correct 3.50 N case traction-lok with 31 spine axles.
This is a reserve auction. I will not disclose the reserve. I will consider High performance Ford trades. Please review the pictures and the video. Message me or call me directly with questions. Good Luck.LeRoy Tanner.
