Offered here is nothing short of a vintage American automobile. This surviving 1988 Eagle Woody is truly remarkable. 1988 marked the final year of production for the AMC Eagles, making this one even more desirable. It is just a two-owner vehicle and was purchased new at Bowen-Fisher Motors of Muskegon, MI. All original paperwork comes with the car, including the original window sticker, build sheet, and owner’s manual. The first owner was an Eagle enthusiast and had a collection of them, as well as many miscellaneous parts he acquired over the years. This includes extra wire wheel covers, AMC badges, light assembly, door hinges, door handles, etc. Everything you see in the photos goes with the car.
In 1988, Chrysler took over AMC, but production of the Eagles continued for the 1988 model year. The car's name was officially changed from AMC Eagle to Eagle Wagon. However, all of the AMC badges, build sheets, and door plaques were carried over. The VIN was no different under the new corporate owner, other than the digit for the year. Although the paperwork that came with the 1988 Eagles continued to indicate that American Motors Canada, Ltd. built them, the company as named ceased to exist, since it became a subsidiary of Chrysler in the buyout, as did all AMC properties. The sedan and Limited wagon model were dropped, leaving the wagon as the only available version in 1988, its final season and now under Chrysler's ownership. Total 1988 model year production was 2, 306 units, all station wagons. The final car rolled out of AMC's original Brampton Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario on December 14, 1987.
The example here for sale is a 1988 AMC Eagle Wagon 4WD. It is finished in the original Vivid Red Metallic (paint code BK) over Garnet Leather interior with wood grain finish inside and out. It is powered by the original 4.2L/2bbl 6-Cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed on the floor Select-Drive automatic transmission with a manual 4-wheel-drive system. Standard features included power brakes, power steering, AC, tilt steering wheel, rear-window defogger, roof luggage rack, dual remote chrome mirrors, dual halogen headlights, fold-down rear seat, and light group (glove box, dome, and engine lights). Upgraded factory equipment on this car included individual bucket seats, 6-way power driver and passenger seats, power door locks, power windows, heavy duty battery, rear window wiper/washer, wood grain side panels, cruise control, wire wheel covers, scuff moldings, and Cassette E.T. Stereo Radio. It also had the Protection Group: stainless steel door edge guards, bumper guards, floor mats; and the Convenience Group: headlights on warning, intermittent wipers, lighted visor vanity mirror. Everything on this car is factory and functions as it should. According to the window sticker, the MSRP was $15, 925.00 back in 1988, which makes sense with all the added features.
This Eagle Woody is ready for a new home. It starts, runs, and drives extremely well. It has been well-maintained and cared for over the years. It has been a summer driver and garaged in the winter. The transmission shifts well and the 4WD system works great, making the vehicle extremely versatile for all weather conditions. All power switches work well also. New tie rods and joints were just installed on the front end as well as brakes, belts, starter, battery, and new tires. The undercarriage also has been a recipient of Ziebart coating to prevent rusting. It’s not perfect but its one of the cleanest you will find on the market; freshly detailed inside and out with a paint protection sealant. Take advantage of this timepiece that has truly been loved over the years, and cruise the backcountry or city streets in classic style. A great vehicle for the cottage or lakehouse at a reasonable asking price. You will be hard-pressed to find another one with ALL the original paperwork in this kind of condition.
