Austin Healey Sprite Bugeye (1960)
for sale
Price: US $6,500.00
Price: US $6,500.00
This Bugeye has just about all of the modifications that an
enthusiast would want. Over $10, 000 in parts and rebuilds have been invested in
it. You can easily cruise the freeway at 70 mph and accelerate in and out of
traffic without a problem. With some body work and paint it will be an amazing
car. I just haven’t been driving it much. It sat in the garage untouched for
about a year. In the early summer I put a new battery in it and drove it short
distances about a dozen times. It’s time to pass the car on to another
enthusiast. Here’s a list of what’s on it:
Rivergate Rebuilt 1275cc Engine Upgrade Bored to 1293cc
OEM Cooper “S” cam (late)
Aluminum Head – Sports & Classics
APT 1.5 Bushed Roller Rocker
APT Adjustable Cam Belt Drive
APT Maniflow Intake Manifold
Rivergate 5-spd transmission & conversion plus
Speedwell Aluminum Radiator
Electric Fan with manual on/off switch
Oil Cooler
Electric fuel pump
H/P Hi-Flow Air filter with K&N Filters
Aldon Distributor + Pertronix Ignition
Around 30k miles on all new front disk break conversion.
All new suspension Parts including A-Frames
Old original lever shocks were replaced with newer tube
style shocks
Morriservice gear reduction starter
Moss rebuilt heater motor installed about 2, 000 miles ago.
Abarth Exhaust
Wood grain dash
5.5” Aluminum Wheels
Aftermarket flat steering wheel to conserve space in the cockpit
Custom Tonneau cover that
fits around the roll bar - good condition
Side curtains – pretty good Plexiglas, rubber is dry rotted
Convertible top frame in good condition
Convertible top in excellent condition but rear window has
yellowed some with age
Bonnet emblem is in good condition but was removed to
prepare for body work
I’ve had a small amount of paint mixed to match the color
that’s on the car so it will be easy to get more. Receipts are available for
most of the parts and rebuilds. Included with the car are several boxes of new
and used spare parts.
Problems
The rusted spots in the body shown it the photos.
The rocker panels have rust in them but they’re still strong
and not sagging as indicated by the straight door seams. The insides of the
rocker panels have been coated with POR 15 to stop any more rust.
The engine blows out blue smoke when it starts cold. I
believe this is due to oil leaking by the valve stem seals, but don’t know for
sure.
The tach works off and on, probably a loose wire.
The speedometer quit working last year.
The air horns work but the horn button on the dash isn’t
working.
This is a 1960 Austin Healey Sprite however it got titled many
years ago in New England as a 1961. Previous owners just left it that way and
there was no problem getting it titled in Virginia.
