Beautifully Restored, 4-Wheel Drive, Rust Free
The Scout's Big Brother
Description:
This great 1968 IH Travelall was purchased out of Montana where we assume she spent most of her life. The service agreement shows it was sold on November 27th 1967 to James Purdy in Great Falls, Montana. This is a great running rust free solid truck. It starts and shifts perfectly and rides out smooth and straight down the highway.
The undercarriage is coated with POR15, She has new door seals and window brushes, new carpet and seats recovered, new switches for turn signal, light switch and new brakes (drums) all around. The front springs have been re-arched. There is a new water pump, rebuilt started, new plugs, wires, rotor, points, The carburetor has been replaced and electronic choke added. The bumpers have been re-chromed. There are new shocks all the way around, a new windshield, new tires, the fuel tanks have been cleaned and coated, new battery and cables. The transfer case seal and main seal have been replaced and the wiper motor was rebuilt. Power back window works. The odometer reads 20833 but actual milage is unknown. The original radio works well and has a new speaker. All the gauges work as do the lights. Cruises at 60MPH. No power steering. A cool truck in amazing shape. She has a few small nicks. I’ve not seen another four-wheel drive Travelall this nice!
History:
The International Harvester Travelall is a full-size, truck-based sport utility vehicle that was manufactured by International Harvester from 1953 to 1975. With a layout similar to the Chevrolet Suburban, it is a precursor to the modern full-size SUV.
Third generation (1961-1968):
In April 1961 the Travelall underwent the same changes as the pickup range upon which it was based. The new C-series Travelall benefitted from a whole new chassis with all new independent front torsion bar suspension. Aside from the lower body, the most obvious visual difference were that the twin headlights were now mounted side-by-side, and a new grille of a concave egg-crate design. The wheelbase for the C-100/C-110 Travelall went up to 119 inches, as the front wheels were mounted further forward. This adjustment increased the front clearance angle in spite of the lower body.
This series was available either with a flip-down tailgate or two doors. The fold down gate had a window which wound down electrically. Development continued in a gradual fashion, becoming the D-series in 1965. A steady stream of new grilles and headlight treatments set the model years apart until a more thorough makeover took place in 1969. Until this model change, the Travelall had been considered merely a version of the related pickup truck; after the facelift the Travelall became a separate series.
