Description:

You are bidding on my 1969 Cougar XR7 with a 428 CJ Ram Air. The options and colors are on the Marti report in the pictures. I bought this car as a package deal with this car and an additional Boss 302 drivetrain. I only wanted the Boss 302 stuff, but the previous owner would not separate the two, so the car is now for sale. Here are some of the details of the car:
Drivetrain:
First, the car does not yet run. The engine is a non-original 428 CJ that has been rebuilt. I asked the previous owner to pull the pan and timing cover for me to verify this before I made the purchase. He did, and it’s true. The carb, intake and exhaust manifolds are the numbers correct ones. The motor is solidly bolted up the car, and you can crank the motor with the ignition key, but he did not get any further then that. It still needs some parts and some assembly under the hood to be running. The carburetor and spacer are just sitting on the motor not bolted up and I would bet it needs rebuilding. The spark plugs are out and there are no plug wires. The starter, motor mounts, water pump, 3 row radiator, hoses, Carter style fuel pump, and fuel line are new. The car has 90% of the original smog system in the trunk. The air cleaner has no snorkel and is in the trunk. Just about every bracket and pulley is missing (except smog). There is no fan, or shroud, or oil dipstick and tube. The exhaust pipes don’t connect up to the motor as it apparently had a different motor prior to this one.
The C6 transmission is the correct type with R servo and cast iron tail housing. However, I am told it is out of a different car, so the linkage out of the case is all wrong. There is no dipstick or tube. The transmission lines are reproductions, and one still needs to be connected. The driveshaft is in the trunk. As I have never driven the car, I have no idea about the condition of the transmission.
The brakes have new calipers, front and rear hoses, wheel cylinders, brake booster, and master cylinder. The entire system was flushed out with solvent before the new parts were installed, so the system is currently bone dry, however, the parking brake should work. The tires are ancient but hold air without any leaks. The spare is the same as the other rims on the car.
Body/Paint/Interior:
The paint is shot. The body is solid overall with a couple of small rust spots in the lower front and rear of the right rear quarter. The front passenger floor pan has some rust through, but the rest of the floor is very solid with the factory undercoating. All other areas of the shell appear to be solid with minor surface rust in areas. The car had a vinyl top originally, but it had been removed sometime in the past and some of the holes for the trim were welded up. Clearly, the roof has not suffered from the vinyl top, as it is solid and smooth, but has several dents above the windshield. All glass is uncracked. The hood scoop is the original one, but the front edge is showing some wear.
The interior is all original and very nice overall. The dashboard is very nice with no cracks. The armrests and door pulls are also perfect and uncracked. The back seat is in great shape, and the front seats are good with each showing a minor tear. The console appears to be solid and still has it’s lighter. The woodgrain stickers on the steering wheel, console, and gauges are bright with no detectible fading. The carpet is original and in strangely good condition, but the passenger side front has some fading. The headliner is original and has fallen apart at the seams. It hangs down, but I have left it alone. The previous owner provided a reproduction he purchased many years ago. The previous owner lost the keys to the car, so a replacement ignition cylinder is in its place, but the original is still with the car (as well as the trunk lock).
This car has been in AZ since at least 1993 and the Arizona title is free and clear of any defects. I have the Marti report and 2 build sheets.
I have not owned the car long and have tried to be thorough with my description, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I missed a few things, so if I failed to address something, please ask me about it..
Winning bidder shall put down a $500 deposit within 24 hours, with the balance to be paid within 7 days of auction close. I am able to store the car for a couple of weeks until the new owner can come get it.
