UP FOR SALE IS A BEAUTIFUL ROTISSERIE RESTORED 1971 MERCURY MONTEGO CYCLONE GT 2-DOOR HARDTOP MUSCLE CAR. THIS WAS A RUST FREE CALIFORNIA CAR FROM NEW UNTIL IT WAS BROUGHT TO NJ WHERE IT UNDERWENT A 2 YEAR RESTORATION.
THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS SHOW QUALITY. UNDER THE HOOD IS A 1969 429 HIGH OUTPUT BIG BLOCK WITH 360 HORSEPOWER, 480 LBS FT TORQUE, 10.5:1 COMPRESSION RATIO AND IT'S BEEN COMPLETELY GONE THROUGH AND RUNS SUPERB ON HIGH TEST UNLEADED GAS. THE CARBURETOR IS A HOLLEY 4 BARREL 80457S WITH ELECTRIC CHOKE. IGNITION IS A FLAME THROWER PACKAGE BY PERTRONIX. THE ORIGINAL WHISPERAIRE AIR CONDITIONING IS RETAINED AND WORKS PERFECTLY (WHO SAYS A MUSCLE CAR CAN'T BE COMFORTABLE). THE ORIGINAL EMISSIONS ARE INTACT AS WELL AS HOSE CLAMPS ETC. THE RACING PERFORMANCE FRONT END HAS A SHELBY DROP OF 2 INCHES COURTESY OF TOTAL CONTROL BY CHASSISWORKS (totalcontrolproducts.com/front_systems) AND IS AN ENGINEERING MASTERPIECE. THE TRANSMISSION IS A SELECT-SHIFT C6 3 SPEED AUTOMATIC WITH CHROME C6 LOGO TRANSMISSION PAN AND WORKS PERFECTLY. THE ORIGINAL BENDIX POWER STEERING WORKS PERFECTLY. THE REAR END IS A POSI-TRACTION WITH 3:50 GEARS AND ORIGINAL HEAVY DUTY SUSPENSION. THE EXHAUST IS FULLY WELDED AND THE MUFFLERS ARE FLOWMASTER 2 CHAMBER. THE PAINT IS COMPETITION GOLD AND ALL THE BODY PANELS ARE STRAIGHT AND LINE UP BEAUTIFULLY AND THE TOP IS VINYL. THE INTERIOR HAS BEEN RESTORED TO THE ORIGINAL RARE MEDIUM GINGER KNIT WITH BUCKET SEATS, GT PACKAGE GAUGE CLUSTER AND GT STYLE WOOD STEERING WHEEL (I HAVE THE ORIGINAL CYCLONE RIM BLOW STEERING WHEEL AND IT WILL COME WITH THE CAR AS WELL AS A SECOND CONSOLE SHIFT COVER PLATE I PICK UP AS A SPARE). THE ORIGINAL RADIO HAS BEEN RETAINED BUT THE RADIO INTERNALS HAVE BEEN PROFESSIONALLY UPGRADED TO DIGITAL WITH FM. ALL THE LIGHTS AND ELECTRICAL WORK PERFECTLY. THE HIDEAWAY LIGHTS WORK PERFECTLY. THE TRUNK IS SHOW QUALITY. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR IS SHOW QUALITY. THE CAR WAS SPOILED WITH AN ORIGINAL AIR DAM AND WING. THE BRAKES ARE THE ORIGINAL POWER FRONT DISK AND DRUM REAR. THE WHEELS ARE AMERICAN RACING TORQUE THRUST D II WITH POLISHED RIMS, BLACK SPOKES, CUSTOM BILLET CHROME CENTER CAPS AND CHROME LUGS. THE TIRES ARE BF GOODRICH RADIAL TA WHITE LETTER WITH THE FRONT 235 60 R15 MOUNTED ON 8 INCH RIMS AND THE REAR 295 50 R15 MOUNTED ON 8.5 INCH RIMS WITH AGGRESSIVE OFF-SET. THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS AS WELL AS THE FRONT GUNSIGHT HAVE BEEN RECHROMED AND ARE SHOW QUALITY. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN REPLACED AND IS NEW.
THE CAR IS 99% AND HERE ARE THE FEW FLAWS: THERE ARE A FEW VERY MINOR PAINT DINGS THAT ARE HARD TO NOTICE EVEN WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING RIGHT AT THEM AND WILL NOT SHOW UP IN PICTURES. I HAVE SOME OF THE ORIGINAL PAINT LEFT AND THESE CAN BE PROFESSIONALLY TOUCHED UP TO PERFECT. I DABBED ABOUT AN ERASER SIZED AMOUNT OF PAINT ON THEM AND THEY DON'T BOTHER ME AND I FORGET THEY ARE THERE. THE VOLTAGE AND TEMP GAUGE IN THE GT CLUSTER ARE NOT WORKING AND I BELIEVE IT IS THE SMALL VOLTAGE REGULATOR IN THE DASH - I WILL SUPPLY THE REPLACEMENT PART. THE SPEEDOMETER READS ABOUT 15 MPH HIGH AND AS LONG AS YOU KNOW THIS IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL BULB IN THE DASH IS OUT AND NEEDS REPLACING. SOME BRAKE FLUID LEAKED ON THE REAR END UNDER THE CAR WHEN BLEEDING THE BRAKES AND NEEDS TO BE TOUCHED UP WITH BLACK - ABOUT THE SIZE OF MY HAND. THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS HAVE COME LOOSE FROM THE BACKER IN A FEW AREAS BUT STILL LOOK VERY GOOD AND ARE NOT THAT NOTICEABLE.
THE CAR HAS ABOUT 300 MILES ON IT SINCE THE RESTORATION 2 YEARS AGO. MOST OF THE PARTS ARE ORIGINAL AND RARE AND HAVE SOME SLIGHT PATINA SUCH AS THE DASH BOARD, DOOR HANDLES, SOME OF THE PLASTIC PARTS AND GLASS BUT THIS TO BE EXPECTED OF A RARE CLASSIC CAR. ANY SPARE PARTS THAT I HAVE ACQUIRED WILL COME WITH THE CAR.
THE CAR HAS A GREAT MUSCLE CAR V STANCE AND LOOK WITH THE WHEELS AND OVERSIZE TIRES - IT'S AGGRESSIVE YET ELEGANT AND THAT'S WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT THIS CAR. THE CAR RUNS AND DRIVES BEAUTIFULLY AND COULD BE AN EVERYDAY DRIVER IF IT WASN'T A VERY RARE SHOW CAR. THE CAR IDLES SEMI-QUIETLY WITH NO SHAKING OR RUMBLING, RUNS SMOOTHLY, AND HANDLES SUPERBLY (YOU CAN TAKE TURNS AT SPEED IF YOU WISH). THE CAR RUNS COOL AND THE AC BLOWS COLD. BUT PUNCH THE GAS AND BE READY TO BE THRILLED WHEN 429 CUBIC INCHES OF BIG BLOCK MONSTER COMES TO LIFE, THE TIRES CUT LOOSE IN FIRST AND SECOND AND THE FLOW MASTERS GROWL! OK - SO I RARELY DO THIS AS I PAMPER THE CAR AND ONLY TAKE IT TO LOCAL CAR SHOWS AND TO THE ICE CREAM SHOP WITH MY WIFE AND SON - BUT HEY I HAD TO SHOW WHAT SHE'S GOT A FEW TIMES! THIS CAR WAS RESTORED BY MY BROTHER WHO ONLY WORKS ON MERCURY'S AND HAS MANY YEARS EXPERIENCE. HIS ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS EVIDENT AND THE PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. HE RESTORED THE CAR TO THIS IS THE WAY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IF I WERE ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE SHOW QUALITY. I HAVE MANY BEST OF SHOW TROPHIES AS RECENTLY AS A MONTH AGO AND THIS CAR DRAWS A CROWD WHENEVER I TAKE IT OUT. THE GUN SIGHT FRONT END WITH HIDEAWAY LIGHTS AND RARE GT SYMBOL ALONE IS A RARE WORK OF ART. NOT TO MENTION THE REAR END WITH THE HONEYCOMB AND GUNSIGHT LIGHTS. ALSO I HAVE ADDED A FEW STRATEGICALLY AND TASTEFULLY PLACED BLUE LED LIGHTS UNDER THE CAR PERIMETER AND IN THE ENGINE BAY. THE BLUE LEDS MAKE THE HIGH GLOSS FORD BLUE PAINT TAKE ON A NICE GLOW IF YOU ARE SHOWING THE CAR AT NIGHT.
