Description:

This is a one-family car. It was bought new in Arlington, Tx. by my sister in 1980. She moved to Kansas where I live. In 1984 I purchased the car from her for my then 14 year old daughter. She drove the car throughout her high school years and it was always garaged at night alongside my car. In 1986 my daughter graduated from high school and I bought her a new Chevrolet SS for graduation. I then took over the MG. Several times in the summer I would get it out of the garage and drive it...I went to Dallas a couple times, Kansas City and Oklahoma City several times. It was always a fun car to drive. I am now 75 years old and I can hardly get in and out of it any more. It has been sitting in the barn for the past 8 years, having been last licensed in 2007. A couple weeks ago I got it out, aired up the tires and drained out all the old gas. I put a new battery in and some new gas. I checked the fluids. The oil was OK but I had drained the radiator when I parked it 8 years ago.
I put the radiator hose back on and filled it up with water. Then I took the breather off and squirted a little gas into the carburetor. I turned it over and it fired right off, but died right away. Then I put some more gas into the carb, turned it over again and it fired right off. This time it ran longer before it died. I started it a third time and now it was getting fresher gas and I let run for a couple hours (I adjusted the throttle to idle at a faster speed). The oil pressure and heat gauge's were right where they should be. The engine ran rough and never did even out.
It ran out of gas and I have had it started a couple times since, but I think it needs a new carburetor.
The car is mostly all original. .there is no restoration needed. There is no rust. It is just like it was when I got it 30 years ago, except for the floor mats and side panels. It has been stored inside the barn or covered the entire time. The glass is all original. I did have it repainted in about 1986 and new seat covers put on. The convertible frame work is all there and functions perfectly. The jack, lug wrench and container is there along with the spare tire and wheel, just like it was in 1980. There has never been any brake work done as there was no need to. I believe the front end was aligned once. There are no leaks anywhere. The clutch and brakes work. Transmission shifts perfectly. It has less than 60, 000 actual miles!
There is some minor body work needing to be done. My daughter scraped the right rear fender putting it in the garage one night. There is a tear in the top of each door by the mirrors caused by the rough brick streets we have in Fort Scott. A little body work and new paint and it would look like new! I needs a new top and new sun visors. The dash has a couple cracks in the vinyl. The AC is factory or dealer installed and does not work. It has not been disconnected. .I just haven't needed it. The radio has also been removed but the speakers are still there.
With a tune up (new carburetor), new tires, new top, brake check, etc. I would not hesitate to put it on the road from my house to Florida, Los Angeles, or anywhere. It is such a good used car!
