MG MGB (1978)

Price: US $500.00

Description:

Thanks for looking.
I bought this car several years ago. It had very little rust and I drove it for several weeks to check it out. Started, ran and stopped great. All the electrics worked. So I knew I was starting with a good base on which to build my dream MG. Sigh.
But life takes its course, it's been sitting in my garage for too long, and it's time to let it go to someone who will finish it and drive it like it deserves. I put it in the garage and it's been in there since, not out in the elements.
There were a few soft spots in the floor, which I repaired. The rear doglegs were questionable so I cut them out and welded in patches from Moss Motors. The steel hood is part of the auction, but it's fitted with an aluminum one from a much earlier 'B. (Before you bid, go look up prices on a dentless early MGB aluminum hood.)
The heavy safety bumpers were removed. The front valance panel was replaced with a custom one, which fills the opening. Included in the auction are two or three early grilles, some various door mirrors, and two windshields. Both frames are serviceable but the glass in one is cracked. The window apertures in both doors were eliminated with steel plates welded in, since I wasn't going to drive the car in rain.
Every suspension bushing was replaced, with the medium stiffness urethane. The front springs were replaced with 2.5 high quality lowering springs. The rear suspension got 2.5 lowering shackles. It's sitting on dry tires mounted on steel wheels.
The engine and transmission that came with the car are out of it but are included in the auction. Also included are the engine and transmission from a 1965 B, which is a higher compression ratio. The original engine was filled with Marvel when it was stored. I assume (but can't guarantee) that it still runs. I never opened the earlier engine and have no idea about its soundness. I was going to put the 78 engine back in the car and rebuild the older one.
The auction also includes a cache of parts that I gathered over a period of years. I've not the time to do a full inventory but my guess is in addition to the parts already on the car, I spent close to $2000 on parts that are in boxes. I know there's a set of new brake rotors and a large Rubbermaid bin of various lights. But I haven't the time to do a full inventory, so consider the parts a bonus.
I'm sorry to have to include this next paragraph . . . . Despite this next paragraph, I'm really easy to get along with . . . .
Please, please, in the name of all that's good and holy in the world, please don't bid if you're not absolutely positive you're buying the car. If you need to check with your spouse, parents, minister or rabbi to get permission, please do so before you bid. Please don't email and ask if you can drive it home. If you've never shipped a car before please work that out before you bid. I can be here when you or your designate show up, please don't ask me if I deliver or if I can work out shipping. Be here when you come to get it means just that. I'll have everything ready for loading and you're welcome to use my engine hoist if you like.
