This is a nice 1972 DeTomaso Pantera that I have owned since 1998. It is a rust free TX car that I purchased from a gentleman in Odessa who was driving the car on a somewhat regular basis. He had purchased the car with around 12, 000 miles on it and put around 20, 000 miles on it in the 6 years he owned it. I have put about another 3-4 thousand miles on it in the time I have owned it. The engine is a period correct open chamber 4V 351C rebuilt with forged pistons and a Crane Fireball hyd. camshaft with stainless steel valves and adjustable rocker arm assemblies including screw in studs and guide plates by the previous owner. I replaced the Comp Cams roller tip rockers and hyd. lifters with Norris stainless steel rocker arms and Rhodes hyd lifters shortly after purchasing the car. The Rhodes lifters bleed down at low RPM smoothing out the idle with a slight mechanical sound. I also installed a road race spec Speed Demon carburetor. The ignition is fired by a Mallory Unilite distributor. I added alumicoated headers and new hangers for the stock mufflers. I added DeTomaso aluminum valve covers and installed braided SS fuel lines from the tank to the fuel pump and to the carburetor. The engine pulls hard for shifts at around 6, 500RPM without missing a beat. A Center Force clutch was installed in the car just before I purchased it. I replaced the stock slave cylinder with a SS version and the ZF transmission shifts smooth and holds strong in all gears.
After purchasing the car I went through mechanicals of the car. High capacity aluminum radiator was added and coolant tubes were replaced. Willwood 4 piston calipers were added. Master cylinder and booster were replaced. Silicon brake fluid was added. The pedal assemble was removed to move the pedals to the left slightly. A arms were rebuilt with new bushing. Front camber lock plates were installed. Steering rack was pulled and brass bushings were installed. The rear half shafts were rebuilt with new Ujoints. The rear uprights were modified to use tapered bearings. I replaced the AC compressor with a high speed unit and routed new lines out of sight to clean up the engine bay. The engine bay has also had all the factory undercoating removed and is painted gloss black and the factory spreader bar was upgraded with an adjustable billet aluminum one.
The stock seats are recovered in leather and will be included with the car and were replaced with Sparco Rev racing seats. The stock seat belts and retractors will also be included with the purchase of the car but have been replaced with Sabelt harnesses. The stock steering wheel was replaced with a Detomaso removable hub and wheel from Collectors Choice. I also had Collectors Choice install a three point roll bar to help stiffen the car up a bit due to the installation of the 245/40R17 and 335/35R17 Michelin Pilots on 9x17 and 12x17 Kinisis five spoke three piece wheels with forged centers held on with billet aluminum DeTomaso lug nuts . The original fiberglass trunk insert is included in the purchase as are a number of shop manuals and period literature pieces.
The car runs and drives great, shows well and handles a little light track work as it should. I did all of these things the first couple years I owned the car and loved it, but as time marched on I used the car less and less to the point I really only drove the car once or twice the last 8 years or so. I am seeling the car to make room for a modern performance car. Ultimately I would like a 2013-14 Shelby GT500 with all options including a glass roof. Any questions or a trade for a Shelby give me a call 608-712-3438 (serious only please) Keith. Thank you for looking.
I can assist in loading the car if it needs to be transported or be available for pick up in person. Ultimately shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer. However, if the Buy It Now is used I will personally deliver the car anywhere in the lower 48 states once payment in full is received.
Bidders are encouraged to inspect the car in person before bidding and/or contact me with any questions.
I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car is advertised locally.
I just installed a brand new yellow top Optima battery in the car and gave it a fresh oil change with Brad Penn 15w-40 oil, although the old oil looked like new. I have had a couple inquiries about the roll bar. It is a bolt in and can easily be removed. In fact it needs to be removed along with the seats in order to remove the access panel to service the front of the engine. I would be happy to remove the roll bar and reinstall the factory seats if the winning bidder would like. Again please contact me if you have any questions concerning the car at 608-712-3438. I can also provide additional pictures of the car or take pictures of an exact area for a serious bidder.
Thanks again for looking and bid to win, Keith.
